Values:

Nagataru value family, comradery, work and strength. They also value practicality over looks. They'll, for example, wear a piece of comfortable clothing, even tho it is made out of a bunch of cloth scraps.

Hygiene:

They take hygiene seriously. Nagataru regularly take bath in warm water to get rid of the nasty stuff and care for their skin. They often add herbs in for smell and to care for their skin.

Diet:

Nagataru tend to eat mainly: meat (40%), fish (25%), dairy (15%), vegetables (8%), fruit (5%), other (7%)

Lifestyle:


Clothing:

One way to spot a Nagataru is through their choice of clothing. Nagtaru mostly wear animal hides and furs combined with clothing and jewelry of other factions they obtained during raids. Many Nagataru wear jewelry made out of bones, including skulls. Women tend to wear clothes of other factions while men prefer clothes made out of fur. The richer individuals, often those who get most kills during a raid wear more bone jewelry to show their status.

Housing:

Nagataru build round pit-houses often made out of stone or stone bricks, going 0.5meters(1.6ft) deep. The roofs are made out of wood and dried plants. These houses rarely have windows, but when they do, same as with doors, they make them out of wood for additional security against intruders.

Work:

Nagataru are hard working people, working up to 12 hours a day on some occasions, every day except Mondays, Sundays and holidays. Families tend to work in the same place to spend as much time together as possible and teach their children their craft, ensuring they will do the same job once reaching adulthood.

Childcare:

Nagataru are very protective of their children. They either take them to work, or to people who specialize in looking after children while the parents work. They even have a special work break, where they return home to make food for their children. Childcare often translates to adulthood, where parents still take care for and live with their children, even tho they have families of their own.

Education:

Education is handled by parents, from reading and writing to things like art, sewing, woodworking etc. Religion is taught to children by religious officials, rarely parents. Some families take their children to workplaces, so they can observe and learn how to do the jobs their parents do, being given the torch of their parents´s knowledge.

Free time:

Children have tons of free time, playing all kinds of children´s games, mainly competitive ones, listen to stories or practice combat. Adults spend most of their free time playing with their families and friends, competing with each other, fighting as a sport, or working on their armor a weapons.

 

Nagataru traditions:


Naming tradition:

Nagataru use Scandinavian names. Surnames they use are like titles given the family for their deeds and achievements, both good and bad. As the children of the family grow up, their surnames tends to change based on their own deeds and achievements, while the rest of the family keeps the old ones. Many surnames start with 'the', like Casper the Brave for example.
  • Male: Asbjørn, Bjorn, Casper, Deniel, Einar, Gustav, Hans, Ivor, Johan, Kieth, Lukas, Mark, Niko, Olaf, Peter, Roul, Sigmund, Thor, Vincent, Werner

  • Female: Anna, Brenda, Cathrine, Dagmar, Elise, Frida, Gala, Helga, Ingrid, Johanne, Katarina, Laura, Meta, Nanna, Oletha, Petra, Regine, Siri, Theresa, Viktoria

  • Neutral: August, Britt, Jan, Kris, Mika,

Adulthood:

Nagataru are considered an adult when they reach 18 years of age. Some families give their children, once they reach aulthood, a weapon, symbolyzing start of their adult journey.

Marriage:

It is common for a man to propose to a woman, mainly done to have a wife. The woman can deny the man if she sees him as weak, or he fails to bring a gift, such as an animal, or money. The man can deny the woman if she is ugly or unfit to bare a child. The marriage is a large celebration done between the two families. They eat and dance. The marriage is sealed by a kiss.

Multiple wives:

It is acceptable for a man to marry multiple wives. If his current wife/s don´t agree with it, she can fight her, or impress her husband in a competition chosen by the husband. If the wife wins, her husband won´t marry the other one.
  • It is rare to have multiple wives, but when it is done, it is by the strongest warriors
  • Very rarely it is reversed and a woman has multiple husbands.

Duel:

It is a big Nagataru tradition that when two people have a disagreement or one wants something from the other, such as his wife or a slave, they fight each other. The winning condition, allowed equipment and moves are agreed on, or decided by a third party.
  • Sometimes duels are done when one person is not fit to fight, so their things can be stolen.

Birth:

Birth is give surrounded by and assisted by the family. The child is then welcomed in by each family member, each giving them a gift, whenever it is a toy, weapons, clothes or food.

Family:

The most important thing a Nagataru can have is family. Nagataru families care for each other, especially children. They don´t leave family behind. Ever.
  • When a family member goes against their values or religion, this is thrown out of the window

Respect for the enemy:

Nagataru have a tradition of respecting their enemy, specifically the person they are fighting. No torture, dirty moves or ganging up on one person.
  • More and more Nagataru seem to ignore this rule. Fights are becoming more savage each raid

Visiting:

When a Nagataru visits someone else, tradition says to treat them as a if they were a member of their family for the duration

Slave treatment:

According to traditions, Nagataru should treat their slaves decently, give them proper clothes, food and bedding.
  • Many Nagataru ignore this tradition and treat their slaves like animals, or even worse

Hunting:

As per the tradition, Hunter are to be chosen by the other Nagataru, to pick hunters who respect the animals, nature and are capable at the job.
  • Their religion practically erased this tradition by only allowing religious officials to become hunters when they are deemed worthy. Tho some places still hold the tradition to an extent

Child relationship:

Having a romantic/sexual relationship with a child is seen as horrible. So much in fact, these people often get sacrificed.

Nudity:

Nudity in public while rarely practiced is not looked down upon.

Prostitution:

Prostitution is heavily looked down upon, unless it is done by a wife/husband, with an allowance from their husband/wife.
  • Sometimes a marriage is sealed only to do prostitution.
