The Flame of Purity

The Flame of Purity is a holy order dedicated to the god Deyallor. The order's mission is focused largely on combating heretics, though they will also enthusiastically oppose fiends, undead, or even raiders or bandits if they encounter them. Considered the most radical of Deyallor's orders, they are known for extremely strict adherance to the law and morality, which they will often punish others for violating. Members adhere to an additional strict code of conduct including vows of poverty and chastity, those who violate this are expelled from the order.   The Flame of Purity considers worship of gods outside The Divine Five to be heresy, though they focus most of their efforts on evil deities. Most members see the Aurean Empire as a manifestation of Deyallor's will and believe all other states to be illegitimate, and will usually ignore foreign laws and customs when traveling abroad.   The order will refuse to work with any individual or organization that does not adhere sufficiently to their principles. They get along well with the other orders of Deyallor, such as The Flame of Justice and The Order of the Silver Torch. They also frequently work with the imperial government, along with local officials and organizations they do not see as corrupt. However, their reputation for zealotry and impulsive violence has given the order a bad reputation among most people, and even many within the church of Deyallor see them as extreme.

History

The Flame of Purity emerged from a split in The Flame of Justice over the acceptability of gods outside the Divine Five and the divine importance of the Aurean Empire, in aftermath of the empire's collapse and the end of The Purge. The organizations have largely remained on good terms and sometimes cooperate on various exploits, but generally work seperately with different focuses (fiends and undead for the Flame of Justice, heresy for the Flame of Purity).
