Aru Fennar

Aru Fennar was a elven city tree in The Western Forest. Like the other trees in the western forest, it was a natural but unusually large tree sacred to the goddess Arthara. At it's height it was home to thousands of elves, and attracted pilgrims from across the forest.   The tree was razed in 4828 AY by an Aurean army led by an overzealous general. The empire was at the height of The Purge at the time, when destroying holy sites to deities outside The Divine Five was encouraged by the imperial government. Many elves died in the fire and others fled north, creating a new town known simply as Fennar.   The destruction of Aru Fennar would unite the usually fractious local elf tribes. The elves would cut off travel through the forest in 4833 AY, effectively severing the empire from some of its westernmost provinces in modern day Pillaran, the first of many the empire would lose in the following years. Most of the empire's army was tied up in a distant conflict to the east, and The Mountain War breaking out two years later kept it from ever being able to mount any significant response.
