Viridian Character in Oabos | World Anvil

Viridian

The deep forest sages are an interesting bunch. Many of them stick to their canyon forests and serve as guides to any travelers needing to cross through. While they tend to be a bit eccentric, they are happy to assist traveling Elementine and Myth Touched and often sell various useful wares to travelers they guide. Viridian is not interested in spending her days shuttling others through the forest, and instead spends her time cultivating the various plants and fungi to grow larger or stronger. One side effect of this encouraged change is to make her forest even more treacherous for wayward travelers.

Appearance

Viridian is an Elementine with a water/stone/plant soul map. She is tall and thin, coming in at 6'2". Her skin is dusky and thick, mimicking the dark stone of the canyon walls, but retains a supple nature due to her water ring. Deep in the forests it is impossible to tell the true color of her hair, with all light shining in various shade of blue-green core light from the many plants. She has also woven leaves, twigs, moss, and fungi from the forest in and through her hair. Strands of Fleshweaver Mushroom thread loop through near her face and provide some illumination even in the darker sections of the forest and canyon caves.

It is hard to tell how much of Viridian's appearance is her thicker skin, pieces of the plants around her, fabric, or magically adapted body changed to assist in her environment. She appears to wear a thigh length flowing tunic over tight leggings. She does not wear shoes, and instead works her long toes into the ground when she is not moving.

Home

Viridian lives within the forest she guards. In growing the plants large and strong, she has also adapted herself to live within them. While commonly camping within Fleshweaver Mushrooms while on the move, she has a subterranean cabin fitted amongst the roots of the largest tree in her forest. The cabin is furnished with moss and mushrooms, and crafted to have a gentle interior glow dimmer that the core light found in much of the forest.

While Viridian's encouragement of the forest to grow large, strong, and wild has made it rather unwelcome to travelers, the canyons location is o ne of the largest dangers. The canyon starts near the end of the Windblade Peninsula and slopes down to connect with deep tunnels leading under the ocean. Sections of the canyon wall end right at sea level before the stone curls over to close off into a tunnel. Due to this, there are salt water streams that flow down the sides of the canyon in sections, and storms over the sea can cause salt rain from the high waves. On very rare occasion, creatures from the sea have been cast into the canyon entrance by a strong storm.

Despite the very inhospitable location, some travelers do still come to her forest. They come for the caves at the far end of the forest, below the ocean. These caves stretch down and connect with deeper routes of the Crystal Conveyance System. This makes it one of the only routes to Nighthold that does not require crossing the oceans, by going under them instead.

Special Skills
Viridian has grown a plant/stone amalgamation around her hands like gloves. This adds enough protection past her stony skin to work with Fleshweaver Mushroom threads without worry that they will break down. She can work them into most anything and is fond of weaving them into her hair or creating fine lace with them.
