Star Skimmer Species in Oabos | World Anvil

Star Skimmer

Star Skimmers were elemental beasts with affinity to core light and starlight. These birds could vary greatly in size, but were distinctive due to the bright blue starlight they appeared to be made up of. They are though to have gone extinct soon after the creation of the Radiant Disk. Their numbers had already been going down due to the increase human population in their habitat, but it is believed that when the disk went up it cut the birds off from both of their affinities. The results would have been similar to the Withering, and would have killed all the beasts it effected.

Even before the Radiant Disk was created, humans seemed to fear the Star Skimmers. It is believed that this is due to the lack of fully solid body, since the birds are made of more starlight than anything else. It seems this unease overrode any apprication for the beauty of these magestic birds.

Habitat

Star Skimmers were origionally found in the polar region of Oabos locked toward it's star. The planet's rotation means that this polar reagion was always bathed in the light of its star. The Star Skimmers werelimited to this area due to the abundance of direct light from their star.

Within this polar region, the Star Skimmers could be found in every habitat. They were not limited in food sources or types of terrain. As long as there was starligh, they were there.[ br]

Appearance

Star Skimmers had very little substance to their body. They were made up of the concentrated essence of startlight and help togeth by their connection to the World Core. Due to this, the birds appeared to have thick, long, feathers that shimmered blue from within.

When in flight, these birds revealed longer, more transparent, feathers on their wings and tails as well. Our old tales also suggest that the birds would leave a trail of shimmering starlight in the air as they flew.
