Bridlip

Capital of the rural Corran county of Timbermore, Bridlip is a mid-sized town built against a gate in the High Spine marking the boundary between the Corran Empire and the Halfling nation of Hundred House.   Previously known primarily as a forestry hub, Bridlip ceased to be of strategic importance after the 648WA peace treaty between the two nations. As one of the main gateways of commerce between the Human and Halfling nations, Bridlip is gaining in popularity as a rustic culinary hotspot.

Vendors and Contacts

The following vendors have been identified by the party, or were already known to Vega Spritzer from her time living in the town:
  • Booth's Charcuterie: Run by Arthur and Artie Booth. The Hiking Club thought they may have inadvertently given themselves away as foreigners in this shop as they provisioned themselves to set out for Anthur-Ro. Partially as a result of fearing they had blown their cover in front of some openly racist shopkeepers, they decided to change course from their original plan to proceed to Fishbag Town and down Ladies' Lake to Ness Acre.
  • Gillmeister's Fine Meats: Run by Derek Gillmeister (exceedingly handsome) and his doe-eyed himbo brother Eck (world-stoppingly gorgeous), the kinder, gentler butcher shop in town is getting run right out of business by the more efficient and commercially minded Altham Meats. Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters was pulled away before she could get more than two buttons undone.
  • Cedric Rustapot's Curio Repository, All Rights Reserved: This half-baked magic curiosity shoppe contained a number of trinkets and teas. Beulah Garland managed to trace a carton of sea buckthorn and juniper berry tea from this shop through the Overcroft back to Roger's counting-house in the Wandering City. Fanny was successful in a seduction here, only to have "Bob" cast a sleep spell on Cedric as she was about to ply her trade. Nevertheless, she made off with a Luckstone -- and after seeing the constabulary interviewing Cedric the next day, The Ladies' Hiking Club consider that they might be under investigation in the town.
  • The Crimson Corsair / The Big Red Boat: Jane Albery runs her father's general store, but her real passion is running her little prophecy shop in the back corner. Cherry Merrybottom had a wine-dregs reading in the back room that apparently revealed a scary skeleton hand and a bunch of trees with wings on them.
  • Cooper Family Coopers and Joiners: Having already lost their parents to illness and their eldest brother in the siege, the young adults of the Cooper family (Ethan, Elsa and Ermine) expressed their despair at the prospect of trying to carry on the family business with all the master coopers dead. The Ladies' Hiking Club tried hooking a grieving Elsa up with talented jeweller Matthew Legge as a solution to that problem.
  • Matthew Legge, Jeweller: The team happened upon this hidden gem while trying to gear up for their journey. Matthew is a very gifted artist that happened to be over the moon for Elsa Cooper across the street. While he was off on a mission of romance initiated by the girls (other than Vega), Clytemnestra helped herself to a pair of fine ivory carvings that she felt were adequate recompense for the two massive opals she needed to offload but that he couldn't afford.
  • The Triple Tun Inn: A vegetarian pub with a region-leading selection of craft beers. Maintained by Sarah-Beth Kersey and featuring live music every night, it maintains a fierce rivalry with the Squealing Sow, famed for its exceptional barbecue and not much else. That rivalry tends to come out primarily in the darts league and the annual regional crickball tournament.

Siege of Bridlip

On the evening of 29th Summer, 866WA, Bridlip was the target of a remarkably well-executed siege. The Imperial Cavalry had been sent out on exercises for reasons that have yet to be determined, leaving only the town guard to defend against a multi-pronged attack complete with siege towers and ballistae initiated in the middle of a rare moonless night.   The Ladies' Hiking Club took shelter in the town chapel, discovering numerous invaders heading down into the catacombs beneath it. The adventurers pursued them down and through a magically sealed door that they now know was shattered open by weaponizing the blood of Gnomish mage "Bob" to pressurize the exterior. Beneath the chapel was a series of Yishanim catacombs they later learned had been referred to as The "Lighthouse": one of six in the world.   Although dozens were killed in the siege, known casualties were:
  • Altus Trebia (sheriff, survived by son Aaron and daughter Maya)
  • Gregory, Thomas and little Andrea Bayly (glassblowers)
  • Werni Oberlass (forester, survived by wife Andi and two grown sons living elsewhere)
  • Stuart Cooper (cooper, survived by brother Ethan and sisters Elsa and Ermine)
  • Gwen Flint (bookseller, survived by husband John)
  • Storen Woolford (shepherd) and
  • Edgar Easeman (potter, survived by wife Maude and daughter Gab).
Master Godsalve, herbalist, is still unaccounted for.

Bits and Pieces

Vega forged a deed she found for a farmstead just east of town, but skedaddled out of the Aedile's office when a clerk was very understandably curious about it.
