The motivation behind building Nusantara
To run D&D campaigns in it with my girlfriend.

Genre
Jungle world with exotic creatures, dark magic, but a fun atmosphere.
Reader Experience
I want my players to feel like the world has depth and that they could ask a million questions and have answers for all of them. However, I want it to be a kind of soft world-building where the answers for everything isn't always clear but it doesn't have to be, things exist sometimes because they exist.
Reader Tone
Somewhere in the middle, I want there to be spooky moments with some horror involved with some of the spirits and demons but I want the jungle to give a sense of wonder as they walk through it.
Recurring Themes
The theme of love is big in this campaign. One of the bad guys is motivated by love and the gods have been motivated by love.
Family and religion kind of go hand in hand, the story is about relationships and friends as well. The characters should have relationships with NPCs and the people around them have relationships to people who are off screen.
Colonization and political motifs are strong in this. The struggle of the Dutchian in their church vs. state battle along with the working force of the warforged. This translates into Nusantara as there are analogs for the issues of the Dutch within the tribes of Nusantara.
Character Agency
I really want the players to be dropped in and be able to explore in whatever direction they want. This means having an in depth world experience so that I know where they are going when they go in a direction.
