Here Kitty, Kitty

Here Kitty, Kitty is a childrens' rhyme from Aberenia in the northern foothills of the Daïdänt mountains that, allegedly, refers to a series of unsolved murders that took place in 5.818, in the village of Awrraf. Each verse recalls one of the victims, though verses are often added which refer to childhood villains such as schoolteachers and figures from fiction or the media.   Each verse comprises the name of a victim and the manner of their death, and ends with the call 'Here Kitty, Kitty':
Llona the Old Maed Found dead in her bed Oh, what a pity Here Kitty, Kitty   Cerid' the butcher N'body w'd touch her Oh, what a pity Here Kitty, Kitty   Dyfed, Mister Miser Tom took his eyes-er Oh, what a pity Here Kitty, Kitty
The events in the song correlate to the violent murders of several prominent townsfolk. Apart from the Old Maed (witch), who was found dead in her own bed, the others - the butcher, the schoolmaster, the farmer and their family - were found at work. A wandering vagrant known as Old Tom was arrested on suspicion of the murders, but no evidence or motive could produced, and they were released without charge and left the area immediately afterwards.   Without a culprit, the community remained anxious and, when the possibility of malicious magic was mooted by representatives of the Ironwrights, the village welcomed them in to deal with the situation. Members of the village surrendered their ability to do magic or left the region. The newspapers who got hold of the story wrote lurid articles which suggested a demonic summoning and dubbed the proposed demon the Great Defiler, as many of the dead were family members - not uncommon in small villages like Awrraf. This is possibly the the origin for the 'here kitty, kitty' line; in Thiyw̯ian, the name is translated to Hhe̊u Keklainty.
