Illexius Arabertir (a.k.a. The Eternal Innkeep)

Illexius Arabertir is an Immortal, presumably drow innkeeper. He is was an accomplished wizard and alchemist before taking the role of Innkeep of Lost souls. Illexius was considered as a myth before the Ponderer's Escape, but the memories of his friend revealed him to be real. Illexius is the patron of the House of Taverns and all inkeepers, who view him as the epitome of hospitality.

Personal history

No one can point exactly when Illexius was born, and the very few who got to meet him say that even Illexius himself isn't sure. The earliest mention of him was found in archaeological digging around the site of an ancient city, a contract from a mirror maker placed in a magically sealed canister suggesting he was alive even before -8,000 BC.   Around 4,000 years ago he somehow left the shard and was stranded in limbo. There, he inherited the role of Innkeep of Lost souls from the former owner of the establishment and have been proudly maintaining it since. This caused him to be practically erased from existence, as he was forgotten by all mortals until his memory resurfaced again with the Ponderer's Notes and by the work of Bethany Fores in her telling of the Tale of Ponder Stibbons. It was later reveled that some figures on Edora where still aware of Illexius, even going as far as confiding with him for advice, yet keeping his name and existence secret from mortals, at his request.   One example of those visits was after the events of the battle of the Second Sun when the silver dragon Rymir asked for his help with founding the Conclave of Magi. Illexius has agreed to help and was awarded a permanent sit on the Council of Balance alongside the rank of Magus-Tir. This appointment was known only to the Arch-Mage, the gold dragon Venadora, Rymir and select few of the High Magi Assembly. The rest of the organization was kept in the dark until the decimation, when his involvement in several incidents were brought to light by defecting members. While he apparently did not share his vast magical knowledge with the rest of the guild, both Rymir and Vendaora claim his experience and advise have proved crucial to the guild operations, yet refuse to reveal specific details.

Education

Illexius studied the path of alchemy for at least three millennia and was one of the firsts to pursue the field. He meticulously documented his findings and experiments, some of which can be found in the writings of Bartholomew Lorewise. According to the few who managed to visit Illexius in the Inn of Lost Souls claim that nowadays he only ever uses alchemy for producing the Inn's beverages and dishes, claiming that alchemy has no benefit to the immortals beside as a tool to entertain and manipulate the mortals.
