Aeon Priest
Aeon priests are the official members of the The Order of Truth. Becoming acknowledged as an Aeon Priest requires years of formal training. Members of the Aeon priesthood are widely respected and revered. They typically wear hooded robes and heavy medallion bearing the eye-like symbol of The Order of Truth. In most communities they are the local "wise folk" looked upon with respect as leaders and advisers.
Aeon Priests are fonts of numenera knowledge. They are not generally interested in the details of past culture or history but in the science and mastery of the world represented by the science of the ancients. Much of the time Aeon Priests are preoccupied with their studies and work sometimes to the point of being considered aloof to the point of rudeness. However, the priests are usually willing to share some of their knowledge (either for a price, often a task they need completed) or because the question is intriguing enough to interest them.
Some Aeon Priests do not answer to the papacy and consider themselves outside the The Order of Truth. This is a confusing bit of esoterica that most outside of the Order itself don't understand. These unaffiliated priests dwell mainly in the Beyond, gathering in isolated, autonomous claves to continue their research and work. Despite being unaffiliated they keep the title because they respect the ideals of the priesthood, if not necessarily the direction the organization itself has taken.
