Fourth Nuggian Constitutional Convention

The Fourth Nuggian Constitutional Convention is the common name for the congregation of Nuggian political leaders, economic leaders, social leaders, and people's delegates in the Breslong Palace on the planet of Breslong to draft the Fourth Nuggian Constitutional Convention. Held in Breslong Palace, a location notable for being the place in which the Second, Third, and Fourth Nuggian Constitutions were drafted, the major instigator for the convention was the Parks Affair, which lead to the abdication of King Isabella II and widespread calls for a new constitution, after the failings of the old one exposed the cracks in Nuggian institutions and Nuggian democracy.

The calls for a new constitution have been building ever since the third constitution overturned the neigh absolute power held by the King following the institution of the second constitution. This has been due to a large number of factors, with arguably the continued use of the Nuggian Knights being the most important

The Parks Affair

The Parks Affair was a political scandal involving the Nuggian Royal Family and the King of Nuggia that came about when it was revealed that one of the King's cousins, one Edmont Parks, was embezzling money from Nuggia's military, state pension, and health insurance agency. Parks' actions had not only put the security of the Nuggian state in extreme jeopardy, but it had also taken from some of the poorest in Nuggian society and put it directly into the pocket of the literal ruling family, and had especially made Parks an extremely wealthy individual. A revelation like this would have been enough on its own to rock the nation to it's core, but it was eventually uncovered that not only had Parks been taking from the National Budget, but he had also done so with the express permission and even support of the at the time king, King Isabella II, through the covert redirection of funds through the royal influence on the treasury as well as the use of the Nuggian Knights to suppress any attempt to reveal the information.
As a direct consequence of this occurrence, King Isabella II abdicated from the Nuggian throne, being only one of three monarchs to do so, although neither Parks nor the King was prosecuted due to a clause in the Third Nuggian Constitution that made it so that the royal family was immune from any form of prosecution for any sort of crime. The act itself as well as the lack of consequences for the royals lead to a massive push to reform the monarchy, and even fairly pervasive calls for Republicanization, and at the minimum the drafting of a brand new constitution. This lead to a group of people that included everyone from party leaders to business executives to delegates elected by the Nuggian people to even some celebrities that made a name for themselves in politics to come together to meet in the Palace at Breslong to discuss the potentialities and eventually draft a new constitution for the The Grand Empire of Nuggia.
