Early Life
When Avani was a child, she would play in the busy corridors of the castle. If anyone caught her eye, she'd smile and ask them to play, but none stopped or if they did, they didn't stay in the castle for long, for it was the order of the queen that no one talk to her daughter. Avani lived a lonely life, unsure what she'd done to deserve her isolation. She continued to be the obedient princess and did everything her mother asked of her, but it was never enough. She endured the strange rituals of the queen's personal priest, Father Aldwin , and did her best not to complain when they made her ill. Her only peace came when she was allowed to play in Liandra's Sacred Grove behind the castle. There she was free to run among the trees, chasing the butterfly and bees that seemed to live there no matter the season. If she was lucky, she'd spot one of the ghosts that lingered among the white birch trunks and imagine that she wasn't alone. Things changed when she reached seventeen, and the queen decided she should live away from the castle. A suitable house was found along with a maid, Klara, and two guards to keep her safe, Old Bill and Dren. Concerned for her soul, Father Aldwin arranged for a priestess to watch over her. Sister Mara was ostensibly from the Order of Liandra, but her true loyalty was to Father Aldwin and his Cult of the Red Hand. From the first moment Avani saw Arshen she thought it the greatest city in all of Nostvary and she spent every hour that she could either in the market or on the docks where she listened to the townsfolk talk. None knew who she was, but they stayed away, aware that something was different about her. It went on this way for a year before Avani found someone brave enough to talk to her. It was a bright afternoon when Toli heard Avani's laughter. He'd been attempting to haggle with a market trader while his men heckled him. Love at first sight is a cliche, but that's what it was, for both of them. They lived happily for a few months before Toli's company was ordered into the field.Relationships
