Economy and Taxation in Nosferia

The Nosferian Empire is built upon an economy of warfare. As most farming is done for the sake of feeding its unturned people, the primary export of Nosferia is weaponry, both enchanted and non magical in nature. The continent has a multitude of rich ore mines that will last for millennia. The close ties Nosferia has with The Underdark has afforded them access to many strange minerals and ores that most nations who have made contact with Drow do not have privilege over. There is a profitable textile business within Nosferia, however, the various cloths, materials, and dyes that are created within The Empire are typically only traded internally.

Gold Talents are the primary currency of the empire as gold veins are common enough that gold as a currency is viable. Smaller denominations include copper at the lowest rung, steel between copper and gold, platinum as an uncommon cumulative denomination above gold, and electrum at the highest denominational quantitative value. Electrum is essentially theoretical and used to quantify one hundred platinum. However, no actual minted electrum talents exist in circulation outside of the vaults of Shtrigia which are only accessed for purposes of foreign trade in high volumes. Silver is not used as currency, and it is illegal to sell or give silver to vampires as it is lethal to them. The Imperial Gold tax predominantly only extends to businesses, wealthy unturned, vampires, Lycanthropes, and Awakened Undead that are autonomous enough to have an income to tax.

All Unturned aside from those who are granted exemption by social status, special circumstances, or government positioning must pay a blood tax collected by a Blood Publican dispatched by the Blood Dispensary. Blood Taxes are collected at the start of an Unturned first year of adulthood which is often stipulated by their race’s rate of maturity and collected every third month of the year. The amount taken correlates with the size, race, age, and social status. The bigger, healthier, and stronger the individual, the more blood is owed. Social status has less to do with high to low than it has with how the individual’s status contributes to their overall health. That said working class individuals tend to pay out more blood than those who are merchants and intellectuals.
