Vsevolod Ledyanoy Character in Nora | World Anvil

Vsevolod Ledyanoy

Tainted Before Birth
Vsevolod Ledyanoy was born as a second generation Nechestivan to a mixed couple of Ohrlen and Human parents. As a Half-Ohrlen he was expected to be big, but his parents were not prepared for what was to come. Being one of the first Nechestivans to be born with The Taint, Vsevolod grew to twice his expected size while in the womb, killing his mother shortly before he was expected to be born. While they originally thought that the Half Ohrlen baby was just too large for his Human mother to bear and killed her due to pressure, he emerged from her belly eating his way out of the womb and stomach as a monster. He was child-sized by the time he stepped foot in the world and both his freakish appearance as well as his Tainted visage caused him to be exiled from the village. What scared the villagers the most was that he seemed aware of their decision and his fate and left of his own accord with a large smile across his face. Naked and alone, he headed into the forest off of animal instinct, and the villagers believed that he would be dead in a matter of days. A careless belief, as he flourished in the harsh wilderness.   His Tainted body has stood the test of time, and he remains among the oldest Risen to walk Nora. While most full blooded Ohrlen stand at just under three meters, Vsevolod stands well over four. His body is thick with unnatural muscle growth and bulges greatly at the thighs and shoulders. He has a multitude of eyes that fan out around the sides of his bald head in a bloody fashion, as if he regularly rips away the skin from his skull to reveal them. His jaw is too large for even his broad skull and is filled sharp, pointed teeth. He wears a collection of loose hide and leather as his bizarre musculature doesn't allow him to wear any kind of restrictive armor. In combat, however, he almost always ends up fighting in the nude to make full use of his body with nothing holding him back. His skin is a motley array of interweaving scars from centuries of battle. Vsevolod rarely if ever uses traditional weapons in battle unless he happens to take them after disarming his opponent. Most often he will fashion improvised weapons from the surrounding area, be it small trees, mast poles, or other fallen men.
Scourge of the Arctic
Vsevolod, having survived for several centuries due to The Taint in his blood, is infamous for the trail of havoc he has wreaked across Nechestivy throughout his long life. Stories of his strength and brutality have reached far across the oceans, spread by Nechestivan soldiers and the rare merchant who had been permitted to do trade there. Long ago, he made a deal with the reigning Tsar at the time, the only man known to best him in single combat, for his freedom on the ice. As long as he remained off of the mainland and didn't target government vessels, he would be unhindered in his endeavors. Vsevolod gladly accepted and began his reign of terror on the icy seas surround Nechestivy.   He commissioned the craft of a large Icetreader, twice the size of any before it's making. He then took to subduing a variety of mages and coercing them into placing enchantments on the ship; the speed and sturdiness were enhanced far beyond the capabilities of such a large vessel. It was dubbed the Stadiya Smerti, the Stage of Death, as it would be his theater of choice for combat out on the sea. Once complete, Vsevolod took to the icy waters and laid claim to them all as his dominion.    Whereas the majority of pirate and raider ships that sailed the waters of Nora targeted merchant vessels for money and valuables, the Stadiya Smerti almost exclusively hunted other pirates. Vsevolod had no interest in fortune, only fame and power. Any time that he hears of an individual that has reached great power on the seas, he sets his sight on killing them. He is unbothered by simple merchants and ignores them as long as they are not in his path. However, unarmed ships that have dared come too close or try to make contact have been completely obliterated.    Vsevolod has known no defeat outside of his brawl with the old Tsar, and is in constant search for new, powerful foes. Now that the man who he formed his original deal with is dead, he has started to target Nechestivan military vessels, biding his time as he debates when to step foot onto the mainland of Nechestivy again where true threats may lie.
A Grim Legacy
Vsevolod's history has garnered fear both amongst his targets on the ice and across the vast majority of the Nechestivan populace. The legends of his infamy has been the inspiration for many grim fairy tales; parents will tell tales of his bloody rampages to their children, and use him as a threat for bad behavior.
