Stargazer Sontar Starym

Sontar Starym is the Patriarch of House Starym and the eldest known living elf. He is a mysterious figure and very little is known about him. He often speaks cryptically and about subjects that do not make sense to many other elves. From time to time though he will provide very insightful information to the council, usually about thing that he should have no way of knowing.


Many people think Sontar is Mad, or touch by some outer force, as he seems to see and converse with things that no one else can. Some think that his transition to Nor may not have worked correctly, or perhaps his strange nature is the reason he was exiled form Arvendar in the first place.


Sontar keeps to himself mostly in the Citadel of the Stars, home to his house, and the highest building in the city. He only leaves to attend council meetings.  Sontar's advice is usually unpredictable, and often seem based on strange knowledge.  This only adds to his appearance of oddity. Sontar has the uncanny ability to know thing he should not know though.  Sometime his knowledge is almost prescient.

Sontar is elf for an elf and it shows.  His body show signs of age, that would be normal for a human in his late sixties.

Sontar's eyes seem to have a strange effect to them.  They appear to reflect the night sky, regardless of the time.

Personal history

Sontar was born in Arvendar and came to Nor with the rest of the Eldar.  Even from his early day he has always been odd.  Unlike most of the other Elesti, Sontar was delighted at coming to Nor, and spent his early days examining all around him.  He was most taken with the night sky.  Nor's two moons and the stars and constellation.  His study of them became instrumental later, when he realized that there was a pattern, and that it could be used to predict the changing of the weather, something that did not occur on Avendar.  


Sontar was the first Elf sent to Nor, though he claims that nor was not their first destination.  He claims the Elders of Arvadar had attempted to send the elves to several other places first, but non of the worked out.  What didn't work out about them, and where they were, he doesn't seems to be able to answer.  He also seems to remember much more about ARvendar than any of th eother that came to Nor, though no one can collaborate his stories.  Many believe they are work s of fiction.  Many also believe that the first transition to Nor did not go as planned and Sontar's mind was somehow effected.  


It was also Sontar who as able to predict where the elves would find a land to settle that was most like wha tthey left.  He helped find the forest that would become Elvenhome.  Shortly after Elvehome was fully established, Sontar left though no one knows where he went.  It is known he spent some time with Humans, but where and how long is a mystery.  He returned one day and continued where he left off as if he had never left.  Question about where he went were always answered cryptically.  


Sontar has spent most of his time back studying the movement of the stars, and moon, but he also researches problems brought to him by the king.  His logical outlook often serves the King by looking at problems from an outside perspective.  Due to this his house was elevated and he now teaches elves that pursue scientific study.  They have been responsible for all kinds of breakthrough, such as predicting weather, finding new type of materials to craft, noew food, etc.

Sontar has not exhibited any outward sexuality.

Education

Starym is a scholar at heart, but not of history.  Instead he studies sciences of all types.  He has an incredible store of knowledge and is considered to be the most intelligent of all elves, though his strange personality seem to undercut the respect that would normally give him.

Mental Trauma

Sontar is said to be a bit mad.  He has conversations with himself or with other that do not exist.  He seems to think in way that no one else does, placing importance on small trivial details, and not caring enough about important subject.  He will completely ignore an issue that other find dangerous, and yet be consumed in finding answers to small question that have no real importance.

Intellectual Characteristics

Sontar is very logical in his thinking and approached any tasks from many different angles.  He is always reexamining things that others think are well established, and looking for patterns in how things function.  He often says that many things can be predicted by examining how they have come about in th epast.

Morality & Philosophy

Sontar seems to care more about knowledge than people.  While he often does what is best for the Elesti, he oftens talks about thing from a perspective outside of the lives and morality of the elves.  He can ague actions form the point of an Orc or Dragon, even if those actions ate threatening to the Elves.
