Mental Strain

Mental Strain is a condition caused by overusing psionic powers. This can cause the person to feel exhausted and unmotivated, as they have using their full concentration to use their powers. While it is primarily an acute condition, continued overuse of powers can cause it to become chronic.
This is different from from mental strain in humans, which is caused by a state of anxiety and tension (although everyone can experience this).

Causes

Mental Strain is caused by people overusing their powers, especially if they are focusing all their energy on using that power.

Symptoms

Common symptoms are fatigue, headaches and forgetfulness. Some people might feel depressed and unmotivated, too. Another sign that this is mental fatigue, and not any other condition, is that people can't control the power they've been overusing. This makes it easy to find the root cause of the problem and suggest treatment.

Treatment

A rest can help relieve the pain and fatigue almost all the time. However, if the person continues overusing their powers without allowing themselves to rest, then they will need to see a humanoid doctor.

Affected Groups

Humanoids and half-humans with powers can be affected by mental strain. It also more common in neurodiverse people, or those with existing mental or neurological conditions.

Prevention

People shouldn't overuse their powers, so they don't get a mental strain. While it sounds simple, it isn't always simple in practice.
