The Dragon Desert

Geography

The Dragon Desert lays in the north-east of Nomardia and has exposed bedrock outcrops, desert soils, and fluvial deposits including alluvial fans, playas, desert lakes, and oases.

Ecosystem

The Dragon Desert has extreme climate and challenging environment. There is very little biodiversity here because of the harsh climate. Few species are specialised enough to survive here. Plants and animals which do survive here have adapted to the deserts difficult conditions.

Ecosystem Cycles

The seasons are usually very hot during the summer and warm during the rest of the year. During winter these desert gets little rainfall. Rain is often light, or in short concentrated bursts. Most of the time evaporation rates are faster than rainfall rates.

Localized Phenomena

Mirages are most common in the Dragon Deserts. A mirage is a phenomenon where you think you see water. They happen when light passes through two layers of air with different temperatures. The desert sun heats the sand, which in turn heats the air just above it. The hot air bends light rays and reflects the sky.   When you see it from a distance, the different air masses colliding with each other act like a mirror. The desert ahead seems to have become a lake but it is actually a reflection of the sky above.

Climate

The Dragon Desert is a hot and dry area with very little precipitation and low biodiversity. Soils in the Dragon Deserts are dry and lacking in nutrients.

Fauna & Flora

Flora: Joshua Tree, Date Palm, Prickly Pear Cactus, Tumbleweed, Laperinne's Olive Tree, Tara Tree, Antarctic Pearlwort, Western Juniper, Saxaul, Welwitschia   Fauna: Thorny Desert Lizard, Sidewinder Snake, Mexican Coyotes, Dung Beetles, Bactrian Camels, Fennec Foxes, Dragons, Ashwinders, Phoenixs   Even sentient races decided to settle down here like Dragonbloods, Thri-Kreens, Orcs, Anacondrais, Yautja, Half-Dragon and Werelions.

Natural Resources

Representative minerals include borax, sodium nitrate, sodium, iodine, calcium, bromine, and strontium compounds. These minerals are created when the water in the Dragon Desert lakes evaporates.
