Mellorund
Mellorund is one of thirteen regions in the continent of Veilra. Its capital is East Fang.
Geography
Mellorund is a low-lying region of coniferous forests and swampland.
Fauna & Flora
Notable native flora and fauna include...
Jackaroo, grazing antelope with small horns and large flat hind feet that allow them to move at very fast speeds via saltatory locomotion (hopping). Their extremely precocial young are able to stand and hop within five minutes of their births. Their long, thick tails are considered excellent eating, and they are routinely hunted across the region. Mastodon, browsing megafauna that stand ten feet tall at the shoulder. Their bodies are covered in a very thin coat of reddish hair, and they have long curved tusks. Mastodon live in family groups consisting of females and young. Males live solitary lives except for a brief period during the summer breeding season, when they seek out females to mate with. Mastodon can be territorial and dangerous if disturbed. Hollowgut, a carnivorous, swamp-dwelling plant species that lures insects and small mammals into its bell-shaped flowers with a sweet-smelling nectar. Once its prey fall into its open mouth, the hollowgut releases an enzyme that causes the nectar to acidify, creating a digestive juice with which to dissolve its prey. Runderling, a light breed of gaited horse prized for its smooth ride and endurance.
