Bamboo, a tall tree-like grass that thrives in the cool, muggy mountains of the Houtai region. Its tender shoots can be cooked and consumed while its woody fibers are a fast-growing source of lumber.
Snub-nosed monkey, a primate species with lustrous golden fur and a blue-skinned face. They are notorious for the mischief they occasionally cause to settlements. Tourists to the region are warned not to feed them.
Bearcat, an arboreal omnivore with short legs, a thick coat of coarse black hair, and a bushy prehensile tail.
