Golems

Elemental beings of Earth, Golems are some of the people that inhabit the shattered scape of Nocturn. Sturdy, strong, and formed of stone, they can sustain tremendous wear and tear, but are quite vulnerable to elemental forces. They can be made of different types of stone depending on their location of origin, and particularly skilled ones can temporarily convert themselves to energy.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Golems are beings of nearly pure elemental energy. Their bodies are made entirely from stone, and resemble that of a human's, albeit somewhat more bulky in the arms and legs. Their heads take the form of spheres made from energy, somewhat like the event horizon of a black hole. The rock that composes them is transmutable between energy and matter, and slowly begins to "crack" and take the form of magic the more focused the golem is.

Biological Traits

Golems don't differ from each other in too many traits, nearly all of their variations come from the type of stone that composes them. For example, a golem made from basalt will be much heavier than one of granite, or a limestone golem being durable yet vulnerable to acids. The other variation manifests in elemental strength. Very experienced and strong golems are able to turn themselves completely into energy, or even manipulate stone as part of their own body, whereas weaker golems may have trouble even holding themselves together when under intense pressure.

Growth Rate & Stages

Golems do, surprisingly, age as humans do. They are born into the world by force of turbulent Earth energy, and "burn out" and die at old ages.

Ecology and Habitats

Being completely inorganic, Golems are incredibly hardy. The only environments that are inoptimal for them are very cold locations, such as the deeper reaches of the Exin Tundra, due to weakening and embrittlement of the stone that composes them.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Due to their heads being spherical masses of energy, golems cannot actually have facial features. However, it is popular in golem culture to wear masks or helms as a form of self-expression.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Golems have heightened sight compared to humans, at the cost of lowered senses of touch. Their sense and proficiency of magic is strong in the alignment of Earth, due to their bodily composition.

Civilization and Culture

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Despite their lack of distinguished faces, Golems still wear masks, helms, or headware. Golem masks typically resemble various knight's helms, with a very medieval style. Some golems even go so far as to just wearing a helmet. Masks are traditionally made to match the wearer by using the same kind of stone.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The most notable relation involving this species is the interaction between Talos and Golem settlements in the Nol Ridge. Eluroc City, effectively the golem capital, was established directly in the middle of Talos land. The Talos, not appreciating the breach of their land, began to show aggression towards the Eluroc Golems. However, even over thousands of years, no real moves have been made in this territorial dispute, locking both parties in uneasy neutrality.
