Mercury Series Trader
The Mercury Feluccas are a ship design with a great deal of history and mythology to them. They were the first widely available civilian dark matter drive capable starships, and opened up space exploration to people who weren't corporations and governments. They are small, versatile vessels made for low-volume trading, exploration, and combat.
Optimism Industries went bankrupt in the 24th century, so no more Mercurys are being made. Older models have become collector's items, reminders of a better, more optimistic times.
Models
Series I
The 2086-2141 model was intended for inter-system freight and didn't include a dark matter drive. They also lacked weapons like newer models would. They are extremely rare now and are worth a fortune to collectors.Series II
The Mercury Series II produced between 2142 and 2180 are the "classic" Mercurys that most people think of. Intensely collected, they are associated with a nostalgia for early FTL space exploration. The retro-futuristic aesthetic called upon the science fiction and glossy cars of the 1950s. These are valuable to collectors.Series III
The longstanding Series III vehicles were produced between 2175 and 2330. They dispensed with the retro-future look of the Series II and focused on affordability, performance, and utility. Millions of these craft were made, making them the most common FTL capable starships. Plenty of Series III are found around the Federation today.Series IV
In order to comply with Federation regulations, the 2330-2345 lacked dark matter drives. Optimism Industries hoped that the return of the Series II aesthetic would attract buyers despite the loss of FTL capabilities. Instead the design bombed and bankrupted the company.
