Axon
Axon is the most populated planet of the Callitius system and the most remote of the sparkworlds.
Geography
Equivalent in size to Earth, Axon would be a dead planet if it wasn't gravitationally bound to its brown dwarf star. Tidal heating keeps the hydrosphere going on this otherwise dark world. The churning of the mantle, catalyzed when the Axon reaches periapsis with Callitius, causes seasonal earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Areas where the crust is newer and softer can better sustain permanent settlement, but otherwise buildable area is limited. Where cities can stand, they are built.
Axon's four major cities are Ranvier, Deiters, Kolliker, and Remak, though more commonly called "Neon City", "Argon City", "Krypton City" and "Xenon City". Population density is high as a billion souls reside on the planet.
Through eco-engineering, Axon's atmosphere has become safe for humans, but it's too cold and dark for most people to be comfortable, the temperature being about -25 C on average. In major cities, industry and lights heats cities up to a still-chilly 5 C.
History
Axon was first settled in 2130 by a group of scientists (collectively called Project Apex) who set up massive labs to conduct exotic experiments. These scientists were eventually driven offworld by an influx of colonists and in 2190 they left for the deeper areas of Nocte Ventus.
Around 2200 the Peerage assigned the Savatier family the title of Duke.
