History

Distinction from Giants

Because the term "orc" historically referred to the Undying and all of his descendents, the emergence of a species of medium humanoids distinct from giants is hard to pinpoint.
At some point, the Undying's blood was diluted enough that orcs no longer had his natural regeneration.

Cultural Split

After the New Orc God killed the Unbeatable and ascended to godhood, he and his followers dissociated himself from the Blood Gods, dubbing themselves the cutting-edge orcs. Those that remained with the "Old Gods" dubbed themselves blood orcs.
