Biological Traits

A Dythomizzani farwalker brought a sample back to The Tower, where it was discovered that that the plant was 79% water, 2% carbohydrates, and a whopping 17% protein. It also contain significant amounts of vitamins B6 and C. Traditional cooking methods, such as boiling or frying resulted in substantial loss of protein, vitamin B6 and C.

Growth Rate & Stages

Life begins for the wheyroot, as a root. Indeed, the first act of consecrating a new Foundry is taking a wheyroot from the Foundry the Head Schmeid trained at and ceremoniously planting it. Once that's accomplished, the root will take several weeks to sprout several pale, pale, green shoots that will eventually grow branches and spade shaped leaves. These branches will grow back into the ground, where they will begin to develop new wheyroots. When the time to harvest comes, the schmeid will unearth the tubers using a specialized fork, and inspect the crop. The most pristine are returned to the soil, and all others are powered for use in communion. The entire process can take up to a year.

Ecology and Habitats

Wheyroot needs soil rich in nutrients, plenty of water, cooler temperatures,and surprisingly little light. As much of Elcadaver is tropical, the tuber grows best in dank dungeons and basements. The main job of many Apprentice Schmieds is hauling enough fertilizer into the gardens for proper growth.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The plant is sacred to Sein Eisen Worshippers. The prophet, Das Eich decreed that every set of daily prayers should be followed with two ounces of raw wheyroot. It's often turned into a powder which is then mixed with cow's milk and drank, but some Foundries will cut you a fresh slice, exactly as the prophet intended.
The powdered version is prefered.

Found in Sein Eisen Foundry basements. Can be found wildly in the Elcadaver's mountainous regions.
