Bucliree Tokana

The Emperor Somidejakrih had the misfortune of being in charge of the empire when it ran out of silver. It’s coinage was already debased to 75% tin, even the greediest merchants in the newly subdued clans were reluctant to accept the coins. The best hope for keeping these wild men tame, slipping from his grasp, Emperor Somidejakrih needed a solution fast. The gods, as they so often do, provided. Priests of the twin gods of plenty, Ranaja and Tana, were put to work carving very minor Ikona. No bigger than an inch and a half in diameter, and featuring images of the gods chasing each others tails, Somidejakrih decreed, "The gods now protect the merchant and the buyer alike."   The Tokana, as they came to be known, were an instant success, accepted without question everywhere. Even better, they proved near impossible to counterfeit. The coin was technically still an Ikona, so one when chanted over, a feeling of contentment would spread over you, like a warm cat in your lap on a cold winter night. Smaller Tokana were "minted" at half and quarter values. The newly subdued clans fell in line quickly. Trade boomed. It seemed that Ranaja and Tana were blessing the empire once again.   The Tokana stayed in use until the collapse of the empire, four hundred years later. As the Wahomay stormed in from the hills, The Buclireean homeland was invaded for the first time in nearly eight hundred years. Emperor Garudenata began culling the sacred groves to make War Ikona and Tokona to pay his troops. He succeeded in pushing the invaders back to the foothills, but the damage was done. The groves were depleted. To save what was left of them, Garudenata began minting coins from iron, accelerating the decline of the empire and leading to his own assassination three years later.
