Igor Elwes

Igor Elwes was born to Ayelen and Jalo Elwes in Klarith, Brek, the fourth and final child in his family. An elf, Igor was raised Vitnu. The nature aspects of this religion were particularly important to Igor's father, who worked as a landscape gardener. His mother worked to raise money for political campaigns.   As a young child, Igor had a happy life. He was fond of his pet hampster and enjoyed throwing surprise parties for friends and family. Igor spent a lot of time playing with his best friend, Gunnar, with whom he liked to pretend to be a spy. Igor and Gunnar were quite good at breaking into places they were not supposed to be, though not particularly stealthy at it. Igor was close to his brothers and sisters, though his mother's over use of truth magic would eventually strain their relationship.   At age five, Igor began to have dreams of GUnnar dying. Believing they were only nightmares, his parents acquired him a dream net. Just over a year later, however, while on a hike with their families, the two boys were climbing over some rocks, which were looser than expected. One of the rocks fell on Igor's right thumb, crushing it. Gunnar, higher on the pile than Igor, slipped and cracked his head.   After Gunnar's death, it became clear that Igor was a seer. Scarred by his first vision coming true, Igor devoted an increasing amount of time to trying to see the future in the hope of preventing further calamaties. Fortunately, over the next six years, he had no such visions. At age twelve, Igor turned his attention to the past in an attempt to learn what had happened to his grandfather who had mysteriously disappeared when his mother was three. It was then that Igor claimed to have a vision of a "calamitous war in which an ancient foe returns to finish what it started."   After this vision, Igor grew excessively interested in astronomy. He began to attend homeworlder meetings and even stopped practicing tennis to do so. Eventually, he turned from the Vitnu faith of his parents to believing in astromythology. Though he would never openly admit this to his family, for fear of their reaction, his mother likely knew, due to her truth magic. He also became particularly interested in the Rings of Auras in Diamondheart.   Since having this first vision, Igor now tries to keep his magical vision a secret because he fears people wanting him to gaze into their futures. Igor usually tells people the future is better left unknown and ocassionally speaks to his worry that trying to stop a bad future could cause something worse to happen. At age thirteen, a fellow student made a joke to Igor about scrying the future, and Igor promptly tried to fight the other boy. Overall, though, Igor has more recently been trying to salvage previously broken relationships.   When not literally worrying about the future, Igor spends much of his time making clockwork devices. Though it is unclear if this is related to his vision, Igor seems to genuinely enjoy the work and has discussed designing clocks and wind-up toys in the future... if he lives to see the future. He is also interested in treasure hunts and stained glass art.   Igor's interest in clockwork has sometimes gone awry, however. At fourteen, he managed to get a date with the girl he had an interest in. He took her to a romantic dinner and presented her with a music box he had created. The music box was intended to display an ocean scene as the music played, but a mistake in its creation caused it to instead display Igor's feared vision of the end of the world. Unsurprisingly, he never got a second date.
