Alzim River

The Alzim River is the largest river in Fyrmae. Early Fyrmaen settlers made towns along this river, which they used as a source of fresh water as well as a means of transportation. The river is famous for once having flown over a cliff at the base of which sits the capital city of Fyrmae, earning the Fyrmaen ruled the name Queen of the Waterfall.

For centuries, the city at the base of the waterfall used water from the river for drinking and watering their crops. In 1211 , at the behest of the queen, the city's Flood Keeper killed himself trying to prevent the lower river from flooding too much during the summer monsoons. His actions also resulted in the river changing course along the side of the cliff. Now all that remains of the waterfall is a rockface of blue crystals, though the river runs close enough to the edge of the cliff that on particularly rainy years, it floods, temporarily creating a real waterfall.

The Alzim River remains an important fixture of Fyrmaen geography. The nation's three largest cities are built along the river, and patially powered by hydroelectricity. The new delta that was formed by the river's change of course is the largest area for agriculture in the country, though the towns in this area are also prone to floods. It also holds great religious and cultural significance within Fyrmae. Many of the nation's most famous temples are built on the river, and at least one traveling temple is built on a boat.
