Agronan Wedding

Like many things in Agronan society, weddings are colored by the dominant Xurugwi religion.   Legally, weddings in Agrona allow for multiple partners and do not discriminate between the gender of these partners. As with Xurugwi weddings, however, all partners must be equally married. (In a wedding involving three people, each person is married to both the other two. A situation cannot exist in which one person is married to two spouses, but the spouses themselves are not married to each other.) Legally, an Agronan marriage requires the filing of a marriage license and the presence of an official who is legally qualified to acknowledge the marriage of the couple, as well as two additional witnesses. This may include an exchange of vows, especially among non-Xurugwi practitioners, or merely be a formal moment that happens apart from the celebration.   Though marriage ceremonies can happen in a variety of ways, it is common that they last several days. Many are held in Xurugwi temples, though they can occur in a variety of locations, including homes, parks, and special venues. Even among non-Xurguwi citizens, Agronan weddings often include the yellow paint seen in Xurugwi weddings, as well as the wedding dance, though with the prevalence of indoor weddings, bonfires and fire sacrifices are usually only held by the most devout of Xurugwi followers. Some indoor weddings include a symbolic fire sacrifice involving paper items with are burned in a candle flame.   As in the Xurugwi faith, long engagements are common in Agrona, with the average engagement lasting about five years. In some cases, couples will remain engaged throughout their lives and never marry. Though these engagements are sometimes broken off, societal pressure usually sees them through. Furthermore, due to the strong presence of the Xurugwi faith, Agrona is unlike other countries in that it is common for non-romantic or non-sexual partners to marry one another.   Agronan divorce, however, is only granted in the case of at fault divorce. Evidence of fault must be provided to the courts which preside over divorce law.
