Waukeen, the Merchant's Friend

Waukeen is the goddess of trade, a position that grants her purview over anything and everything related to commerce. Traders of all kinds from merchants to smugglers venerate the Coinmaiden, praise her name, and ask for her favor in their daily dealings. Waukeen loves the flow of business more than anything else; any thriving marketplace filled with haggling can be sure to garner her attention. But for the many positives aspects of her personality, Waukeen can be notoriously stubborn and persistent even to her own detriment.   This trait once led to the near loss of her godhood when she made a deal with the demon lord Graz'zt, who promptly betrayed and imprisoned her under the guise of "renegotiating" their deal. The Lord of Hedonism knew full well that Waukeen would never agree to alter an already agreed upon deal and that his insistence on new terms would keep her in his realm indefinitely. All the while, he schemed to find a way to drain the goddess' power and transfer it his daughter Thraxxia, installing her as a puppet deity under his control.   She remained Graz'zt's prisoner for twelve long years before she was able to escape her guards for long enough to send a vision to one of her clergy. Though Waukeen's followers were greatly reduced in number after their goddess had been silent for more than a decade, those few who remained mounted a daring rescue and lead their deity out of Graz'zt's Abyssal lair and to freedom. In time, Waukeen rebuilt her clergy with a new tenet added: the destruction of Graz'zt and any who serve him.

Quest for the Quintus Gems Campaign

Waukeen was the original patron deity of the cleric Marshall. She was the source of his divine magic when the Barrel Boys helped restore the legendary Lost Mine as well as during his early adventures on Nexus. With the power she provided, Marshall used magic to create many valuable items for trade and quickly built himself a fortune over the course of a few mere months.   But shortly after the Barrel Boys recovered the Yellow Quintus Gem, Marshall discovered that his warlock traveling companion Myster E's patron was Thraxxia when she popped in for a visit. This information made its way to Waukeen by proxy of Marshall and the enraged goddess demanded that Marshall slay the demon where she stand.   Knowing he stood no chance against Thraxxia in a fight, Marshall nonetheless attempted to fulfill his goddess' orders only for Myster E to counterspell his magic. Waukeen saw only red as she looked at Thraxxia through Marshall's eyes and in her rage stripped him of his cleric powers for his "failure", leaving the magic depleted mortal to whimper as Thraxxia beat him within an inch of his life while openly mocking Waukeen.
