Eko the Kobold & Uku the Raptor

Eko was a quirky kobold who made his way to Lothal from somewhere south of the country. He claimed to be the mightiest of kobolds who was raising a "dragon", his companion the megaraptor Uku. While Eko was certainly enthusiastic, his claims of bravery proved to be less than true. After several adventures with the Headhunters, he left the rest of the group for dead when a situation against a powerful monster started going south. The group reported his actions and when confronted, he tried to flee guild justice. This resulted in him being hunted down and subsequently executed by Sir Huntington.   Table of Contents

History

Coming to Lothal

Eko was born into a tight-knit community, as is common for kobolds. From early in his life he proved to be something of an outcast for a simple reason: he was selfish. This eventually reached a boiling point when he abandoned several other kobolds during an all-hands-on-deck situation. The relatives of the deceased chased Eko from their village and he was forced to flee for his life.   Wandering through a seemingly endless forest, he stumbled onto a raptor nest and stole an egg. It eventually hatched into a baby megaraptor that he named Uku. Eko proved to be skilled at lying to himself, convincing himself that Uku was a baby dragon who just hadn't grown its wings yet. And that finding the egg was his destiny so that he would have the power to do things in the name of the goddess he worshipped, Tiamat.   Uku proved to be equal parts vicious and loyal, turning the duo into a pair of little killing machines. This skillset inspired Eko to join the Adventurer's Guild once he made his way to Lothal. Having learned from past mistakes, Eko resolved not to do anything greedy unless he was really, really sure he could get away with it. And this subterfuge lasted a number of years, until after he'd had a few adventures with the Headhunters.

Adventuring with Real Heroes

The Headhunters met Eko when he was loudly claiming it wasn't a big deal that Uku ate someone else's horse, cause he paid for it. The party recruited him for a job to investigate missing game animals. The culprits ended up being an ettercap and its flock of giant spiders, which the group promptly defeated (with Eko accidentally setting the forest on fire in the process). He headed back to Inkhear on his own afterward while the Headhunters went running on another errand.   Shortly thereafter, he went along with the party to get some R&R at a carnival. After losing a battle of insults to Hugh that went a little too far, Eko fled to the nearby pumpkin patch in tears and wound up spying on Moltor when he sensed danger. He managed to stay undetected until the rest of the party arrived and drew Moltor's attention. While the group did force Moltor to retreat, Eko was as disturbed (though not quite as saddened) as the rest of the group by Kiri's death.   Eko's next adventure with the Headhunters took him up into the mountains near Stonescore. The cold, miserable mountains, as far as the hairless little kobold was concerned. He opted to leave Uku behind on this adventure, worrying his "dragon" would freeze in the snow. The party found an ancient frost giant tomb and began to clear out the undead contained within. When the rest of the party attacked a pair of young remorhazes and angered the beasts' mother, Eko fled in fear of the giant monster. He informed the quest poster that his companions were dead (genuinely believing this) and headed back home.

Facing Consequences

When the Headhunters got back to the guildhall, Eko was in the middle of telling the tale of their "demise". Chigiri very loudly and publicly accused Eko of abandoning them, which Eko rebuked by claiming that they needlessly picked a fight with docile wildlife. The altercation soured the guild's opinion of Eko and an official investigation was opened.   Eko was found to be at fault and ordered to pay restitution to both the guild and the Headhunters, as they were the offended party. Eko agreed to this and then promptly began making plans to flee the country as his greed and denial of responsibility took full hold of him. He and Uku almost made it to the border when Sir Huntington tracked them down and shot the pair from afar with his custom crossbow and left their bodies to rot.
