Darmond Stouthead

Darmond Stouthead is the gatemaster of Brazenthrone, overseeing the guards at the main gate that connects the city to deeper tunnels. While he seems as stout in both stature and personality as any other duergar at a glance, those in the know are aware that his position has corrupted him due to his ample opportunity to accept bribes. Whether his superiors are unaware of this, lack proof, or simply don't care enough to act on it is unknown. While many offer coin to get past his gates, his reputation indicates he is a collector of strange and rare weapons; an oddly shaped or fanciful dagger is much more likely to earn his favor than a satchel of gold.

Journey Into the Underdark Arc

Keeper of the Gates

The adventurers of the Thaig Expedition met Darmond at the gates of Brazenthrone, where he began demanding paperwork and taxes after Bogo knocked. He mentioned more and more taxes at outrageous amounts as the conversation went on, leading Bogo to (correctly) suspect Darmond was trying to scam them. It was at that point that Gobo (who'd been tying his shoe) caught up to the group and said he'd handle Darmond. The goblin merchant asked Darmond if he remembered the night a certain something happened. A flustered Darmond agreed to let the adventurers into the city so long as Gobo kept his mouth shut about that & sent one of his guardsmen to escort them to the Common Quarter.   A few days later, the adventurers approached the gate again. They intended to hang around it until an OoPA-hunting party they could join approached to leave the city. Darmond was about to object and threaten to arrest them for lollygagging when he spied a group of Blade Guards approaching, led by his superior Brannas Blackaxe. His tone quickly shifted to polite (and a bit scared) as Brannas instructed him to open the gates. He hid in his office while she conversed with the adventurers before departing with them for company.
