Metosas Cadron

When the fellowship of Paladins descended into the Wickerwood, among them was Metosas Cadron, a boy of twenty with little training and even less discipline, whose joking demeanor grated on his fellows and earned him little respect. When, two months later, he and the woman named Resottres were the only ones to re-emerge from the dark woods, he had been changed and seemed now older than his age. Returning to the city of Aunumeres, Metosas was hailed as a hero though his thoughts dwelled on other, darker things.

A Guilty Burden

Metosas grew up in the town of Sotjora, one of the many plainstowns of the northern Jonu Quiato. His mother, father, and sister were his only family and they worked hard on their cattle farm raising cows and goats.   Him and Gastita often played with the animals, Metosas yanking on their tails and ears and her laughing along. One day when he was thirteen, his jokes and abuses were too much and the poor creatures broke into a stampede, toppling the fences and crushing Gastita. The sister perished from her injuries and the mother never forgave the son.   At 15, Metosas left town and went looking for hard work to ease his guilt and at 17, he joined the Order of Othigil at Aunumeres. Only three years into his eight year training, he was enlisted in the party of twenty to explore the Wickerwood.

The Journey of the Wickerwood

In the Wickerwood, Metosas rose to prominence as a risk taker braving fords and gullies the older, more jaded members refused. At the wood’s center, he and the small remainder of their retinue came across the The Wicker Crown, a lost artifact from the time of Lutol’s first lords, that gave its wearer control over the powers of nature. The crown spoke to him and chose him as its bearer, allowing him alone to carry it out of the woods. He was heralded as a hero upon his return to Aunumeres with the lost crown. But he and Resottres, the only survivors of the deadly mission, knew the true reason the crown had chosen him was that it empathized with his guilty consience and he felt no sense of accomplishment for his deeds.

A Bitter End

The crown was sealed in the vaults beneath Aunumeres where it began to plead for its release in the dreams of the city’s denizens. Metosas did not go a single night without these dreams and for all the women and wine he consumed he could not forget the crown nor his dead sister. Though he went on to lead the Paladins of Othigil and commanded a great many successful missions, he never once was happy. In 2440, at the age of 27, he committed suicide. On that same night, the wicker crown was stolen from the city vaults and was never seen in Aunumeres again.
