Calico Jack

Jack, known by his stage name as Calico Jack, was the head of a bard group and active supporter/educator of the Zso race. Once Eleanor's lover and bandmate, he became obsessed with revenge after she abandoned the rest of the band to bandits, with Jack himself narrowly surviving.

Appearance

Jack was a Zso male, with a strong build, broad shoulders, and a chiseled jawline. Standing at about 6 feet tall, he had swept back, wavy black hair, and two long, angular horns. He often wore colorful clothes of all types, but while on stage, he would always don his signature beret and cloak. After his near-death experience due to Eleanor's betrayal, he had several visible scars on his body.

Personality

Being a bard, Jack was a charismatic individual. He was very at home on the stage, and took genuine enjoyment out of entertaining others. He cared enough about his people to take them in and educate them. While prior to Eleanor's betrayal he may have been much kinder, the thought of revenge had since consumed Jack. His actions toward the party were threatening and manipulative, and while he didn't think himself a "monster" like the bandits of Nevurdul, he did things that could easily be argued as deserving of such a title.

Despite all this, it was clear that Jack didn't relish in his actions, and perhaps even still cared about Eleanor. But Jack was resolute in what he believed was right, despite his own feelings and doubts.

Background

The details of Jack's life are unknown. He was part of a band for an unknown period of time, during which he would travel to different settlements with his band, performing for coin. This also included hosting an annual bard competition known as the Great Bard-Off. In between performances, he would find feral Zso in the wilderness and give them a basic education, so they could better represent the Zso race as a whole.

By complete chance, one of these Zso Jack and his band took in happened to be Eleanor. Over the months of education, the two grew close, leading to her officially joining the band. As the years passed, Jack and Eleanor fell in love.

All was going well until bandits attacked the band's carriage. In a moment of cowardice, Eleanor abandoned Jack and the other two band members to the bandits, escaping with the carriage. This resulted in the deaths of the two band members, as well as Jack's near-death. After barely surviving, Jack became obsessed with revenge and sought to track down Eleanor and make her pay.

Fate

• Killed by Eleanor

After a failed attempt to escape leading to his leg getting caught beneath his carriage, Jack was stabbed in the neck by Eleanor, finally ending his obsession with vengeance.

Relationships

• Eleanor: At one time, Jack loved Eleanor dearly. But even after everything happened, he still wrestled with the love he had for her. However, as Jack said, he would never give up until Eleanor paid for her actions.

Trivia

• Jack's stage name "Calico Jack" comes from his signature multicolored beret and cloak. The word "calico" means "printed cotton fabric", but it is also a term used for multicolored fur on animals, typically cats.
