Nightgate

Capital of Grimhallow

The City of Vampires

The ominous capital of the vampiric noble republic, Nightgate is a city of narrow districts, dramatic plays, and cutthroat intrigue. Nicknamed 'the City of Vampires', it is one of the only places in Grimhallow where visitors might be found, including free non-vampires. Local politics are dominated by the intrigue, influence, and corruption of the noble covens. Nightgate is also where the wicked Feast holiday is held every one hundred years.

Defences

The city is surrounded on all sides, minus the coast, with ornate walls made of a black stone material unique to the area known as kragstone, one of the densest materials on the continent. They are expertly crafted to display an array of vampiric figures carved into the walls. Throughout the walls are highly defensible towers manned by crossbowmen and mages.

Industry & Trade

The city and principality's most prominent export is flesh, mostly of the living variety. Slavery makes up the biggest sector of the economy, slaving guilds compete for mercantile supremacy with each other, dealing in mostly mortal slaves along with some lesser more bestial vampires. The city exports some crops like cotton and wheat, produced by slaves. Additionally, from ancient times, the vampires of the city have developed a great tradition of wineries, they export high quality wine to much of Sol.

Guilds and Factions

Slaver Guilds

The guilds who deal in slavery have a significant sway in the mercantile affairs of the city. Most of them are fairly high class vampires who hire mercenaries to raid nearby settlements and coasts for slaves. The guilds make a great deal of money through their slave trade. Though, more importantly, without the flow of slaves, the city would lose the backbone of most of its economic sectors.

Architecture

The vampires of the city, with their great affluence and taste for artistic expression, have gained an affinity for ornate stonework. Some of the more distinct architecture of the city features huge towers, atmospheric gardens, and uncanny statues of gargoyles and Kabara.

Natural Resources

Being in such a heavily forested area, lumber and livestock are in abundance, particularly spruce, cattle, and sheep.
