Nerevia
Long ago, an emissary from another world gifted a Crystal to mankind. Within this crystal was housed magic at its purest, most primal form; That of creation magic. The ability to create, destroy, and manipulate the elements at a whim with no magical training required. Predictably, this sparked an era of warring nations and heightened tensions that Nerevia has never truly recovered from; The allure of such absolute power proving enough to turn even longtime allies against one another.
During the war, the Crystal, dubbed Boccob’s Heart after the deity of the same name, disappeared from its resting place within the great vault of Myrinthal under mysterious circumstances. This did nothing to halt the raging conflict between nations, as baseless accusations of theft and foul play continued to spew unchecked from the mouths of advisors and commoners alike.
And then, one fateful day, a powerful quake was felt throughout Nerevia. The sky was split open by a massive outpouring of energy, and the land was beset by a shower of meteors that brought devastation in their wake… From the impact sites spewed forth a terrible black mist that drained life from the land, corrupting man and beast alike and driving them to madness as it spread across the land. To make matters worse, there have been recent reports of full-on portals that have allowed all manner of undead and demons to slip through, as if stirred onward by the mist itself.
To combat this, a newly formed task force calling themselves the Pale Wardens, composed of warriors gathered from each nation, has begun a crusade to close the portals, drive back the undead, and contain the mist before it envelops the entire world.
Our tale begins with the stories of a few new recruits of the Wardens, hand picked by one of the Warden Exemplars himself, and their initiation before mounting a mission to close one of these accursed portals and stop this demonic invasion.
