Guilds
The Nejiro Guilds are associations of merchants, trades, artisans, and craft workers. They support themselves via membership fees, service and good fees, grants, and investment funds. They provide materials and tools, mutual aid, education and training, production standards, quality control, ethical codes, safety standards, political influence, security services, insurance and financial aid services, legal services, social functions, and community to their members. Guilds maintain regulatory, inspection, and enforecement roles through their Syndic arm. Guilds are divided into Craft guilds which represent specific trades and services - which are divided into five primary types: arts (calligrapher, musician, actor, dancer, illustrator, manga artist, writer, photographer, sculptor etc.), crafters blue collar, trades (carpenter, welder, farmer, assembler, weaver, baker, technician, metal worker, glazier, brewer, lace maker, mason, plumber etc.), martial (combat styles, merchant marine, bounty hunter, patrol officer, security guard, ranger, paramedic etc.), scholar white collar, professional (engineer, lawyer, factory manager, pharmacist, receptionist, buyer, architect, surveyor, executive assistant, academic scholar, detective, doctor, librarian, accountant etc.), and service pink collar, public service (religious order, event steward, butler, social worker, flight attendent, retail sales, call center rep, teacher, chef, secretary, host, nanny, sex worker, driver, stylist, waitress, paralegal etc.) and Merchant guilds commodity, wholesale (livestock, textile, copper, paper, electricity, traders etc.) which regulate trade in general. Guilds also protect their members from excessive taxes, illicit trading, and keep trade secrets. Guilds sponsor apprenticeships, who learn basic knowledge and earn the respect of their peers, and provide the means to move through journeyer status - who are certified and paid for their work - to mastery. Guilds are individually and collectively run by its Conclave of Masters who decide all guild matters. Journeyer's who wish to pursue leadership status within the guild generally educate themselves in the civil service essentials and requirements to become Meritous, as candidates with this appellation are more likely to succeed, though it is not a requirement. Guild Halls are erected locally and regionally to store goods and tools, have markets and offices to conduct official business, with rooms and auditoriums to conduct meetings and social functions, and as educational and archival centers, some have pubs and offer lodgings for travelers and apprentices. The embassy ward in Yousai holds Guild Halls from every major guild on Nejiro and its stellar system. The Masters Hall has its place on the Okina Hiroba {grand square} on Parliament Hill in Yousai.

Nejiro planetary population approximately 37.8 million, plus another 2.9 million in the stellar system
Nejiro Ports (planetary) handle approximately eight hundred and sixty million tonnes of cargo annually.
Over eighty percent of Nejiro shipping travels over water.
Railways on Nejiro move approximately one hundred million tonnes annually.
Air cargo on Nejiro handles approximately two million tonnes annually.
The stellar system ships around two billion tonnes of cargo (metals and minerals, water ice, agriculture, manufactured goods, electronics, clothing and textiles, machinery, artisan handcrafts, art and media) annually.
There are approximately thirty three thousand cargo/freight/container ships operating in Nejiro waters (inland waterways, canals, rivers, lakes, and oceans which cover more than eighty three percent of the planet) including independents.
There are about seven hundred thousand trucks across Nejiro, of which four hundred seventy five thousand are used to carry freight for intermodal commerce, the remainder can be found in the hands of the military, government, construction and maintenance companies, utility companies, farmers, tradespeople, digital nomads, livery drivers and chauffeurs, commuters, and leisure drivers.
Nejiro truck production is more than triple motorcycle and auto production. Pickups, off road vehicles, all terrain vehicles, utility vehicles (utes), coupe utility, and roadsters make up most of the sales in the auto industry after commercial trucks and vans, heavy trucks, and motorhomes - followed by motorcycles, scooters, and electric bicycles, then fleet sedans, sport performance autos, and premium luxury autos. Most people use a train to travel almost everywhere, only the most highly populated metropolitan areas on Nejiro have suburbs to commute from (Yousai, Hilo, Leyte, Port and Lanikai) and even then most still use the railways to commute, and personal use autos are still considered a luxury item.
