Military action
The Dead Gap refers to both the physical location, and the twelve-year period between the end of the Ethelan counter-advance and today. The first 4 years were a period of constant combat on the northern front between the cities of Nanhetha and Kindushaba, which wrought heavy losses for both forces. The southern front, along the fortified Claypond River, witnessed only minimal combat that lasted no longer than a year before the Belsumese relented.
Since the relative cessation of hostilities 8 years ago, the fronts have stabilized and a hesitant peace is settling. Some say that a new accord will be made, and peace return to Maletsok, perhaps even open trade. Others say that the Ethelan will drive out the Belsumese once and for all after the Utamad'Zum Rebellion is finally crushed and military resources can be relocated to the Islands.
