The Darbreduun Extolment (dar-breh-DOON)

Translation into Common

Oh let us not forget the ancient tomb

Oh let us now extol Darbreduun.

In anc'ent days of briny foam

When there was yet no land

Elumen took ocean stone

And crafted in their hands

The Islands on which stands

The great Mountain Darbreduun.

First came Dwarves of Idwalen

Then Men and Halflings too

And from the Hands of Manrien

Sprung up a Holy Brew

Bringing life unto

Those young Folk of Darbreduun.

The Folk enjoy'd their new-found lives

Yet nary sought or yearn'd.

Thence Fornien the one so wise

Gifted them the Word

With which they taught and learn'd

Of the land 'round Darbreduun.

The Folk built ships to tour the world

But Kolaluth decried

So Bokorel the waves did curl

And cloudy made the skies.

The Folk then were confin'd

To the realm of Darbreduun.

'Twas then the Cunning Ones as fiends

Deceiv'd the gentle Folk

Twisting hearts to learn of Greed

And ache to rule the world

Thence neighbours turn'd to foe

To rule the whole of Darbreduun.

Akkolor guilled Kirien

To train the Folk in War

And quick to brutal clash they went

The land they clad with gore

And red they stain'd the shores

For the reign of Darbreduun.

The Gods were rag'd by Mortal Greed

And weigh'd to cast down pain

So Idawlen her Forge releas'd

And thence the slag forth-came

Drowning all in flame

The Gods departed Darbreduun.

The cries and moans o' the burning Folk

Did Elatien rouse

Who went below and rais'd his cloak

The Folk he did enshroud

Yet burn'd he in the cloud

Of the fire from Darbreduun.

The sacrifice of God of Light

Did Malakien rouse

So return'd she to the land in plight

The dead she sought and found

And laid them in the ground

North of Darbreduun.

The flood of fire swallow'd whole

Maletsokish pride

So by the Nine with common goal

They set their greed aside

To build a unified

Home beneath Darbreduun.

O let us keep fore'er the peace

Form'd from pain of old

Let us thence cast off our greeds

As from this story told

That we may ever hold

Our fear of Darbreduun.

Oh let us not forget the ancient tomb

Oh let us now extol Darbreduun

The Darbreduun Extolment is an ancient chant sung by adherents of The Way of the Mountain (see Luthaenoism). It tells the Sacred History of Maletsok, and is typically sung in the long-dead Old Maletsokish language.
