Old Maletsokish

Old Maletsokish is the traditional and sacred language used by the peoples of the Maletsok territory in ancient history. The language acted much in the same way as commonspeak does in the Empire today, being a simple and unifying language. Today, the language has no known native speakers, and is rarely used outside particular religious documents and some extremely niche academic contexts.

History

Old Maletsokish was part of the Maletsokish Confederacy's efforts to unify the Maletsokish folk following the eruption of Mount Darbreduun, along with a unified architectural style, trade and travel standards, and even a famed recipe book. It was designed with few consonants and loose pronunciatioin rules to allow for the varying groups to speak it well. The language was initially written as runes in stone, but overtime it came to be written on flax paper with ink, giving the language two alphabets; runic and inkish.

Sadly, like many of the Confederacy's unification plans, Old Maletsokish only succeeded for roughly a century before the peoples returned to their traditional ways. The language carried on for a time in many religious ceremonies, government documents, and academic works until the introduction of commonspeak with the Ethelan conquest of the Islands. Over the seven centuries, the language has fallen into obscurity as all Maletsokish works and systems were translated into commonspeak to better suit the Empire.
