Sistren War
The Sistren War was the brutal centuries-long war between the Etle and Mlar elves of antiquity. It led to the foundation of the Ethelan Empire and Melarond Kingdom and the Diudyr Republic, and was the catalyst for the revelation of Aethanism.
For centuries after their birth from the Sienivorst, the Etle of the Sun and Mlar of the Moon lived as one people in the Mykigron Valley. However, after a time, the Abercast Goblinfolk came down from the Vahingol Mountains. Plagued with mountain sick and covetous of their lands, they brought forth a great war against the elves. The Mlar lands were ravaged, and some fled to the safety of the Etle or their southern Human neighbours, where the Half-Elf folk were made. However, a great many more were driven underground into the bowels of Nedia. There, they sustained themselves on the dangling roots of Vortemor's Fungi for many centuries.
In the year 3354 of the Julmut Era, after centuries of combat, the Etle succeeded in driving out the Abercast from the Mlar homeland. The Mlar returned to their land, and they beckoned their underground sistren to return. The centuries had changed the Mlar in the bowels of Nedia, however. Their refuge in the dark had plagued them too with mountain sick. They returned the welcome of their fellow Mlar with a great war, fashioning great gates in the mountainside from which to pour and spread violence across their old home.
The Etle and Mlar thence unified their peoples together, calling themselves the Ethelan or High Elves, and fiercely defended the Mykigron from their sistren, whom they called the Melarond: the Forsaken by the Moon. The war was ruthless and devastated the landscape. All suffered, and it is said that more children were lost than soldiers from sweeping, indiscriminatory attacks. Overtime, the Melarond gained allies in their old enemies, the Abercast Goblinfolk of Vahingol. Together, they were close to taking control of the Mykigron, forcing the Ethelan to concede their superiority and humble themselves to ask for aid from their Wood Elf ilk to the north and the Diudyr half elf Princes of the south.
After 3300 years, many Diudyr had become disgruntled with the ongoing war, which spanned many lifetimes for their kind. They rebelled against their princes, pulling themselves out of the war for a time, allowing the Melarond to advance. After the Diudyr people had settled and formed a society ruled by the people themselves (see the Diudyr Republic), they mustered their strength and the strength of their neighbouring Agrel humans and formed a great force that attacked the Melarond at their Great Gates, sealing them within. A period of time was spent gathering the remaining agitants and banishing them back to their home in the Sunless Deep until 14 T.E., when the Ethelan lands were finally freed. The Diudyr Republic keeps control of the Great Gates today, keeping the Ethelan out of the Underdark and the Melarond within, nobly forcing a peace between the hateful sister-folk.
