Owlbear Rebels
The Owlbear Rebels, also called the Owlbear Resistance or the Owlbear Restorationists, are a large group of resistance fighers in the Dobrid Nations of the Maletsok Territory. The faction is largely made up of Dobrid Humans, but other Maletsokish folk and even those from across the Empire have been known to be associates. Although the Rebels mostly work in secret, they are typically identified by their blue-green garments, usually cloaks.
Formation and Beliefs
Although the group's exact origins remain as illusive as its leadership, their first known action took place in the year 1698 in the city of Deeple. There a riot broke out that caused the death of 26, including 14 citizens and four Imperial soldiers. The eight rebels who died all wore woad-dyed blue-green tunics or cloaks, and witnessess reported that other agents wore similar garments.
Thanks to anonymous correspondence with Imperial officials and the Dobrid King, the motivation for the goup was confirmed to be discontent with the reign of the Empire, and of King Drystan of the House of Gralin in particular. They cited the raising of taxes and prohibitions of goods in certain areas following the 40-Day Parade as the catalyst for their grievances, and claimed to be fighting for economic liberties. The upset against King Drystan particularly stems from his percieved failure to be an ample mediator between the Dobrid people, the Lentuards, and the Empire. Whether the Owlbear Rebels aim to destroy their monarchy or simply instate a new King remains contested.
