Carnelian Order
The Carnelian Order was an ancient inquisitorial organization of the Dobrid Kingdom of the Maletsok Islands. It was founded sometime between 98 and 90 J.E. after a civil war between the Eastern Kingdoms (most of which are today Ethelan settling grounds) and the Crown in Farenport. It was believed that growing disloyalty had caused the war, and the Crown secretly formed the Order for the purpose of finding and eradicating such tendencies. After the integration of the Dobrid Kingdom into the Ethelan Empire, the Carnelian Order faded into obscurity, as the Imperial Inquisition came about to enforce loyalty to the Empress.
The Order’s methods were largely unknown to the general population, but the results were uncanny. Those that might be unfortunate enough to get on the Hand’s radar may have disappeared for weeks at a time only to return shaken and suddenly nationalistic, missing body parts, or not return at all.
The Order recognized its members by the ring that bears its namesake, a silver ring with a carnelian stone. It is typically worn on the right pinky to symbolize intelligence and persuasion, as well as the Order’s role as the King’s “right hand” in the Lents.
