The Lands of Granasar

Granasar also means "Free Land" or "Wild Land" in the language of the savages.
Once an ancient civilization ruled over this land, its remains can still be found scattered everywhere, but these golden times are long gone.

DEMOGRAPHY & POPULATION

Most of the population lives nomadically, following the herds of animals they hunt. Although Granasar is often referred to as a country, this is not entirely true,
the land belongs to no one and the many different clans and races that live there often wage wars among themselves.
There were some kings who tried to unite the country, but whenever it looked like it could work, the kingdom of Arnutur interfered and stopped the project.
Granasar does not have a unified culture, behind each hill lives another clan with different traditions. However, there are some factors that can unite all these clans.
On the one hand the will to be free, most people in Granasar curse the kings on their golden chairs, only a strong leader who has proven to be competent may lead them.
Basically, the further you go into the north of Granasar, the stranger and more brutal the customs of the clans become.
There are said to be cannibalistic tribes living on the islands in the north.

TECHNOLOGY

Many of the advances that have long been part of everyday life in the rest of the world have not yet found their way to Granasar.
On the one hand, this is because Granasar is isolated from the rest of the world and only a few travelers stray here.
On the other hand, it is also due to the fact that there are no real cities or even schools. Superstitions and practices that have long been forbidden in other countries are part of everyday life in Granasar.
They also have neither mining nor real blacksmithing. Their weapons and tools are mostly made of obsidian or rapier stone.
Both are rather weak materials and break faster than the steel of the empire. From time to time there is trade between some travelers and the inhabitants so there are rarely some steel weapons.

Local Traditions and Feasts

Due to the isolation of Granasar and its neutral place in the game of geopolitics (due to not being a state) Granasar became a small haven for Criminals and especially political refugees.
Old enemies of the Kaiser or bastard sons of Patriarchal Families flee to this place and some find a new home in this surreal land.
This led to many clans having a history of migrating to granasar after they had to leave their homes in the south. Especially many of the elven clans orginially came from Arnutur but left in the past centuries because of the repressive policies of the realm.

Geography

Basically Granasar is a very surreal land, huge forests and endless tundras cover the surface.
Moreover, Granasar is very isolated due to its location, to the north is the frozen Coast with nothing more than the ocean beyond and to the south are
the Eternal Peaks which serve as a natural Border that is hard to pass between Granasar and the Realm of Arnutur in the South.
Along this mountain range large fortresses were built so that the wildlings from the north can not penetrate to Arnutur.
Granasar itself has four main geographical regions: Mountainranges, Tundras, Forests and the Frozen Coast.
Most of the Clans settle in the Forests or the southern Tundra while the frozen Coast and the Mountains are only scarcley populated.

Climate

It is said that before the Fall of the Nebian Empire, Granasar was a temperate land, with lush summers and normal winters.
Today the climate is very cold and harsh. Most of the land is covered in permafrost which remains in the summer and makes agricutlture impossible.
What caused this climatic change is debated, some say it could be a natural change in climate that occured over that last millenia, this claimed is reinforced by the reason that Granasar lies close to the Arctic Poles.
Some however say it was caused by the fall of the empire itself or could even be a punishment of the gods.
Population: estimated 100k
Races: Humans, Elfes and Halflings make up the majority
Towns: Seven
Settled Clans: Nine
Nomadic Clans: estimated twenty
