Regal Timberwelk Navy

"At order men! Jaques, you're slouching! Guy, do I see an improperly hemmed sleeve?, Collette, you just blinked!
I swear, recruits these days have no discipline."
-Felix Mascarpone, Secretary Commander

Intro

The Regal Timberwelk Navy is a moderately sized navy which is dwarfed by the much larger and much more imposing Harpsbilgian Royal Navy. Unlike the masses of unskilled seamen employed by the Harps, every member of this navy is excellently trained and disciplined, in some cases making up for the lesser numbers. This navy is respected, if not feared, by almost all that sail the seas - a mark of prestiege that the higher-ups often let get to their heads.

Agenda

Because of the Second Curse of the Six Seas, Timberwelsh has significantly less opportunities and incentives to do trade on the Six Seas. However, it is still an incredibly valuable and lucrative territory so Timberwelsh retains incentive to have a presence. The three primary objectives of this navy in the Six Seas are to promote good trade, maintain diplomatic relations, and, when possible, stop Harpsbilge from reaping massive benefits from the region.
Since the Thieves' War, Timberwelsh has made efforts to distance itself from the fact that they hired privateers, so they have some motivation to quietly dispose of pirates when possible. However, this is not an all out war on piracy as it is with Harpsbilge, it's more like killing bugs - most people won't go on a crusade against bugs, but will kill the ones that they see.

Leadership & Ranks

The official head of the navy is none other than Empress Stephana Pourseville, the reigning monarch of Timberwelsh. The best course of action for the navy falls under her direct command. Those responsible for putting her words into action are the Fiers Commandants, the defacto heads of the navy. There are 6 permenant Fiers Commandants and 4 whose seats change every 3 years among representatives of the 27 Timberwelk territories.
Below the Fiers Commandants are the Royal Orators, who have the simple job of speaking on behalf of the monarch to authorize decisions made by commanders. They have no actual role in operations.
Fleet Commanders & Secretary Commanders come next, ranked equally. Fleet Commanders are responsible for fleets of ships both large and small. Meanwhile, Secretary Commanders are responsible for the operations of naval bases and communications networks.
Captains answer to the Commanders, and in turn Lieutentants answer to Captains. Finally, Timberhands serve as normal crewmembers.

Ships & Resources

The navy has approximately 350 active ships on the Six Seas, with another 600 operating elsewhere and some 700 in reserves. About a quarter of these ships are galleys a third are fluyts. A surprising number of the remainder are windcarveres, an exotic type of ship which excels at moving fast and far, but holds little weight and sinks easily.
