Heretic's Folly Building / Landmark in Nareah | World Anvil

Heretic's Folly

In the middle of an otherwise empty plain, a charred pillar of stone rises to the heavens. Surrounding it stand eight statues, each with their hands raised to the skies above. Nearby, positioned to match the statues, stand eight well constructed shrines to the primary deities of Nareah. This is Heretic's Folly, a monument to the eight who stood against the Heretic at the end of the Kazarian Heresy many centuries ago during the Godsmarch.

Purpose / Function

According to popular tales, Heretic's Folly stands over the location of the Godsmarch  as a monument to remember what can be done against overwhelming evil. The massive stone pillar is believed to be the outcome on Nareah of the Heretic's ritual after it was interrupted. A shrine to each of the primary deities worshipped across the land has been constructed here, allowing the faithful of those divine beings to give thanks for their part in the interruption of the ritual.

History

When the chaos that followed the Godsmarch came to an end and the new order of divine power finally settled, the faithful of the various deities began making their way to the pillar left at the site of the final battle of the Heresy. Overtime, these visitors began to construct shrines to the new gods at the site of their ascension.

Tourism

A near constant stream of pilgrims reaches Heretic's Folly during the summer months. Indeed, even in the winter months, though it slows to a trickle, the pilgrimages of the faithful to the Folly never truly stops.
