Defences
WALLS- The walls of Andale stand 13 feet high and are 5 feet thick. This large wall has 10 gatehouses that stand 18 feet tall and are flanked on both sides with a large watchtower. Each gatehouse is also equipped with 1 ballista in case of a dragon attack on the city. Each gatehouse recedes into the wall by 10 feet to create a choke point for invading armies. Murder holes and arrow slots are then made use of to halt or slow enemy advances.
Andale has and active military force of 12,000 men and woman who protect its walls and sail its ships. The Crown of Embershard has been growing its navel power in the south for many years now and currently have 643 active navel vessels at its disposal.
Industry & Trade
Trade routes in the south sea are protected either by Embershard military vessels or mercenary ships hired out of the harbor. These trade routes are often harassed by pirates originating from either the Kingdom of Carthus or dragonborn defectors out of the Kingdom of Nilvirkus. However, the Duchess has had plenty of time to establish a strong enough presence in the region and throughout their trade routes that pirate attacks are on the decline.
From silk to wine and gold; almost anything conceived on Naphus has most likely passed through the ports of Andale. Wealth of all differnt kinds can be bought, stolen or killed for in Andale.
Infrastructure
TRANSPORTATION- Carriages can take people from one point in the city to the next for a modest price. Carriages cost 4 cp per person.
LIGHTING-The Inner City has several well spaced oil lanterns on sturdy stone posts lining its streets and buildings. They are lit every night starting at 7pm in the summer and 6 in the winter. They are then extinguished at 5am in the summer mornings or 6am in the winter. The outer slums have a handful of oil lanterns hung on wooden posts on almost every street corner and most of the time when lit; stay lit until they burn out. some lanterns may also not be refilled or lit for a few days or weeks after it was last used. This means much of the slums stay dark at night and the street that was lit one night may be pitch black for several after.
WATER- Water mills along the river collect water before it runs into the ocean and is processed and purified for city use. Many things that dont require fresh water such as cleaning streets, putting out fires, etc; can be done by using ocean water instead. Clean and purified water is stored in large underground cisterns all over the city proper.
ECONOMY- The default currency of the world is the copper piece, also known as a copper bit. The typical Commoner makes about 1gp a week(so about 15cp a day).
Assets
Andale is a large enough city that just about anything can be acquired here. Magic items are still quite rare and no shop openly trades in them but you may find a hidden shop owned by a mage in hiding who is looking to trade his craft for some coin. Many different mounts can be purchased and even trained here. -Everything on the equipment list can be bought in Andale-
History
Architecture
BUILDINGS & DECOR- The Inner City is decorated with lush gardens of exotic fauna and flora. Almost every building has stone incorporated into its build and roads are also paved with fitted cobble. Buildings here can sometimes reach 3 to 4 stories tall and feature glass in its windows. The slums of Andale have few paved roads and feature mostly paths that have been wore in over time. Most buildings here are made of stone unless directly owned by one who lives in Andale proper. An example of such a building are warehouses, shops and Taverns/Inns.
Geography
Andale rests in the fertile Reckon River Valley on the coast of the Plutonian Shore. The sea air and Andale's geographical location give it almost a tropical feel. Temperatures here can climb to 70-90 degrees Fahrenheit. A day without rain is very uncommon here and varies from a heavy downpour to a steady mist. Visibility in heavy rain is limited to 60 feet. Beyond that distance , only large or larger objects can be distinguished. Missile weapon ranges are halved during rain. On days that receive heavy rain, there's a 20% chance of a subtropical storm featuring sheets of rain, high wind, lightning, tall waves at sea, and immense surf along the coast. Travel by river during one of these storms is impossible (Boats are swamped by waves within 20 minutes of launching)
