Danai Library of Ilurial

The Ilurial Danai Library stands as a towering edifice of stone and iron in the northern quadrant of the city. The exterior of the building is constructed from huge blocks of gray granite, giving it a somber and imposing facade. Narrow slit windows pierced along the upper floors allow thin streams of light inside, but overall the library has a solemn, impenetrable atmosphere.   The most striking feature of the library's exterior is the giant domed roof made of dark iron bands interlaced together and rising to a peak. The dome is visible from many districts throughout Ilurial as a defining landmark. At the main entrance, two massive wooden doors etched with scrollwork designs and wards provide entry to the vast interior.

  • Pin: The Ilurial Danai Library pin is a round enamel pin about two inches in diameter. The background depicts a stylized image of the sun, with warm golden rays radiating out from the center. The rays fade from a bright golden shine at the middle to a deep reddish-orange around the edges, evoking the changing light in the Tower of the Sun throughout the day. In the foreground, the prominent silhouette of the Tower of the Sun is etched in black. The tall, circular tower is unmistakable, with its tiered shape and peaked conical roof. Delicate tracery patterns etched along the edges of the tower mimic the ornate stained glass window designs.
  • The Sunstone Amulet: is an ornate golden amulet shaped like a disc, reminiscent of the sun emblem featured on the Ilurial Danai Library pin. The front face of the amulet has a polished sunstone gem at its center that seems to glow faintly from within. Intricate etched filigree radiates out from the sunstone in looping swirling patterns. It can be actived once per day to cast the spell Daylight centered on itself. When activated, the amulet calls forth daylight, but in a unique spectrum of colors that evokes the stained glass windows of the Tower of the Sun. During dawn, sunset and twilight hours, the light shifts in hue, cycling from dim blue, to vibrant gold, to bold crimson, and finally to soft violet. At noon, the light burns bright white, mimicking the sun high in the sky shining directly through the tower windows.
