Personal history
Born as Makena Kirimi in a small village nestled in the highlands of Kenya, Orion grew up surrounded by the beauty of nature and the rich traditions of her community. Her family lived a humble life, tending to crops and livestock, and passing down stories that intertwined spirituality with the natural world. One story in particular captivated her as a child: the legend of the tortoises in the sky. According to local lore, the stars were not celestial bodies but divine tortoises who watched over humanity, their shells glowing with wisdom and guidance.
Makena found solace in the night sky, often spending hours gazing at the stars and feeling a connection she couldn’t explain. She believed the tortoises were trying to communicate with her, a belief that deepened after a life-changing event in her adolescence.
One night, while tending to her family’s farm, Makena was caught in a sudden, violent storm. She sought shelter under a tree, watching the sky erupt in flashes of light. As the storm cleared, a cluster of stars seemed to shine brighter than the others, forming a pattern that resembled the shell of a tortoise. Makena felt an overwhelming sense of warmth and clarity as a voice, or perhaps a feeling, seemed to guide her every thought.
From that moment, Makena realised she had been chosen. She began to experience strange phenomena: her body glowed faintly under the stars, and she could summon bursts of light that mimicked the brilliance of the night sky. Over time, she learned to harness these abilities into star-based attacks, capable of both defense and offense. She saw this as the tortoises entrusting her with their power, a sign that she was meant to do something greater with her life.
In the year 3012, Kenya faced a devastating yellow fever outbreak that overwhelmed the country’s resources. As the disease ravaged her village, Makena witnessed the arrival of Heroic’s Oath, who had travelled from across the globe to provide aid. Their advanced medical technology, combined with their heroic presence, brought hope to her struggling community.
During their time in Kenya, Heroics Oath did more than fight the disease- they intervened when a neighbouring village began exploiting Makena’s community. The neighboring village, emboldened by the chaos, sought to subjugate Makena’s people, taking their resources and threatening their survival. Watching Heroics Oath stand against this injustice sparked something in Makena.
Inspired by their courage and selflessness, she resolved to follow in their footsteps. She saw her powers not just as a gift, but as a responsibility to protect others. It was during this time that she adopted the name Orion, symbolising her bond with the stars and her desire to become a guiding light for others.
Orion trained herself relentlessly, honing her star-based abilities while studying the stories of heroes from around the world. Her powers evolved to include a range of star-themed abilities, such as creating radiant shields, launching energy bursts, and summoning constellations to disorient her foes. She also worked to strengthen her physical condition, preparing for the rigorous demands of heroism.
Years later, Orion applied to Heroics Oath, determined to join the organisation that had inspired her so deeply. Her application stood out not only because of her abilities but also because of her passion and her unique connection to her powers. Upon acceptance, Orion quickly became known for her grace, determination, and unshakable belief in the guiding wisdom of the stars.
Orion’s philosophy is deeply rooted in faith and balance. She believes that every star, and every person, has a role to play in the grand design of the universe. This belief gives her an optimistic and empathetic outlook, which complements Lithus’ more pragmatic and gritty approach.
When Orion met Lithus within Heroics Oath, she was drawn to her resilience and the raw intensity of her personality. Lithus, in turn, found comfort in Orion’s calm, almost celestial demeanor. Their relationship is built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to protecting others, though they occasionally clash over their differing philosophies.
Orion serves as a beacon of hope within Heroics Oath, her powers reflecting her unwavering belief in the tortoises and the guidance they provide. Whether fighting on the frontlines or offering emotional support to her teammates, she embodies the light she believes the stars have given her. For Orion, heroism is not just about defeating villains, it’s about inspiring others to find their own light in the darkness.

Morality & Philosophy
At the heart of Orion’s morality is an unwavering commitment to protecting the vulnerable and maintaining balance. Her actions are governed by a simple but powerful principle:
"Every light deserves to shine, no matter how dim it may seem."
This belief drives her to fight against oppression and injustice, whether it comes from disease, violence, or systemic inequality. Having witnessed firsthand the devastation wrought by the yellow fever outbreak and the exploitation of her village, Orion sees heroism as a sacred duty to shield the powerless from harm. Her morality is compassionate and self-sacrificing; she places the needs of others above her own, often putting herself in harm’s way to safeguard those who cannot defend themselves.
Orion’s morality is also informed by her connection to the tortoises. She views her powers as a divine gift, not meant for personal gain but for the greater good. To misuse her abilities or fail to act when others are in need would, in her eyes, be a betrayal of the stars’ trust. This sense of accountability to a higher power reinforces her resolve to always act with integrity and courage, even in the face of overwhelming odds.
Orion sees her role as that of a guide rather than a ruler. Just as the stars illuminate the night sky without dictating the path below, she believes in empowering others to find their own way rather than imposing her will. This philosophy makes her an empathetic and patient leader, willing to listen and adapt to the needs of those she works with. She often encourages her teammates to trust their instincts and draw strength from their own inner light.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
She’s motivated to become the best hero she can be so she can one day return to her home village and be a guiding light to her people. She’s contemplated staying in New York, but she quite angry with how closed-minded people tend to be, and would rather prioritise her own people first.
Social
Religious Views
At the core of Orion’s faith is her belief in the tortoises of the sky, which she considers divine beings inhabiting the stars. To her, the tortoises are guardians of the universe, embodying wisdom, guidance, and protection. She believes that these entities observe humanity from above, subtly influencing events to maintain balance and harmony. The tortoises communicate through constellations, flashes of inspiration, and the luminous energy she wields, which she sees as their direct gift.
Orion’s relationship with the tortoises is deeply personal. She feels chosen by them, and their guidance serves as a compass for her decisions. For example, when faced with uncertainty, she often gazes at the stars, interpreting their patterns as signs. This connection gives her a profound sense of purpose, as she views herself as a vessel for the tortoises’ will, meant to bring light and balance to the world.
Orion’s spirituality is also rooted in the traditional religiois practises of her Kenyan heritage, particularly those emphasising the interconnectedness of nature, ancestors, and the divine. Growing up, she was taught to honor the spirits of the land and her ancestors, believing that they continued to watch over and guide their descendants. This belief complements her reverence for the tortoises, as both systems emphasise the presence of unseen forces shaping the world.
From her Kenyan upbringing, Orion inherited a deep respect for nature as a living, sacred force. She believes that every element of the natural world, from rivers to mountains to animals, carries spiritual significance and deserves reverence. This belief influences her heroism, as she strives not only to protect people but also to preserve the environment from harm.
Hobbies & Pets
She has a pet tortoise, though she views him as more of a companion than a pet. He was a gag gift by a racist member of HO, as a way to say “these turtles aren’t divine, you’re crazy for thinking so”. He was deathly ill when she first obtained him, and through her care has recovered, even with the extreme pyramiding he got from neglect from the previous owner.
Speech
She speaks with a thick Swahili accent, in a cool and calm tone.
Wealth & Financial state
Her village was rather poor thanks to the subjugation of a neighbouring village, so when she first joined Heroic’s Oath she only had some pocket change to her name (especially thanks to how expensive it is to move). But with the wages she receives, she’s quickly accumulating wealth. Every so often she’ll take trips back to Kenya to disperse the wealth she’s received.
