Dalberez

As you approach the village, you stop hearing the mud slosh under your feet, being replaced instead by wet cobblestone. On a hill to the northwest of the town, a church-like structure stands, looming over that part of the town, with a graveyard extending behind it. A branch of the road leads to a dilapidated windmill about half a mile to the north.
Dalberez is the first settlement that outsiders encounter, and it paints a good picture of the rest of Valbrunei. The people are paranoid and careful, they never stay up late, and they very rarely investigate missing people or any other suspect activity around or outside the town. It is a custom to spit behind one-self after mentioning anything unholy or supernatural, to signify putting its name and the evil behind you.

Locations of Interest:

  • Hillside Church: The small church is looked after by Father Lycan who worships the Lord of the Sun, a false interpretation of Vitaria lost and eroded through time. The centerpiece of the church is the standing sarcophagus of Saint Xeralda, made of metal and painted with the form of the Lord of the Sun. It is said to contain the remnants of the saint, though they haven't been shown on mass for a long time, leading people to believe that even the last shard of holiness in the town has been ground down.
  • Black Pelt Inn: The inn is the main gathering spot for the people of Dalberez, and all the windows and doors look like they can be barricaded from the inside if anything happens, though the barricades look unused. The inn provides room and hardy food, as well as wolf steaks for an extra cost.
Outside the inn is a well, Gray smoke issues from the chimney of this large, two-story wooden building with a stone foundation and sagging tile roof, upon which several ravens have perched. A painted wooden sign hanging above the main entrance depicts a hanging black wolf pelt.
  • The Old Mill: The old decrepit mill looks like it has not been used in at least decades, with cobwebs and a thick layer of dust covering everything. It is still moving very slowly from the wind, but It has three floors, the base, the second floor and the attic. It is empty and with no signs of life. There are a number of empty wooden boxes covered with dust, and empty sacks that contained grain and flour. There are also rumors that at the new moon, sometimes lights can be seen from the Mill, and strange voices heard by those who dare walk close enaugh.
