Vorozol Character in Nailara | World Anvil

Vorozol (Vohr-oh-zohl)

The Devourer of Souls

Vorozol is a demonic god associated with slaughter, mindless violence, soulcraft, and demonic hordes. His worshippers are rare in most places on the material plane, and mostly consist of the unhinged and violent. Few are restrained enough to form any sort of formal, structured cult, and are usually killed in their pursuit of wonton slaughter.   The exception to this is the nation of Lishan, where a cult of Vorozol's followers overthrew the nation's government and took control of the capital. Using demonic magics, they capture and corrupt the people of the country and direct them to slaughter their enemies.

Demonic Armies

Vorozol's armies are the most numerous of any of the demonic gods, and consist largely of barely sapient, ravaging monsters. Despite the madness with which his army conducts itself, the god is quite crafty. A master of soulcraft, he alone knows the secrets that allowed him to craft demons from fragments of souls. With this magic, his armies are multiple times larger than other demonic gods, though they primarily consist of weaker demons.   Vorozol favors lemures, hezrou, and manes for the bulk of his armies, with the more intelligent nalfeshnee guiding them.   Where other demonic gods seek to control the entirety of the Abyss, waging a long war over strongholds that change rarely change hands, Vorozol favors a brute force approach and overwhelming numbers. His troops take key soul wells as they are needed, and abandon entire planes en masse to move on to new locations, leading the other demonic gods to fight over the wreckage.

Vorozol's Mask

It is said that in Vorozol's realm, a cracked porcelain mask of a feminine face guards the throne room. Legends say that thousands of years ago, Vorozol was known by another name. Displeased when he looked at himself in the mirror, Vorozol tore off his own face and gave himself a new name. The torn flesh of his former visage hardened into a mask, which now hangs in his fortress.   The mask is said to have a mind of its own, and its whispers can drive the weaker willed to madness.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Vorozol appears as a roughly 15 foot tall, lanky humanoid figure that would likely be even taller if he was not perpetually hunched over. He is pictured wearing tattered red robes and a half-skull mask with jagged spikes acting as a crown. Where facial features would be, Vorozol's face is completely smooth, and he speaks without a mouth. He wears the pelt of a great beast about his shoulders.
